I agree with one very Important part in Vendor research ie. Vendor history, previous work & product and services that Vendor is dealing in. Important questions before meeting: Does these product or services Vendor providing is good fit? Will these product/services fit into the budget? Setting the expectations straight with Vendor is important.

Prepare the data points before we sit with Vendor about the following things Who are the main players? What is the current feasible market price? What are the existing trend on the market? What are the potential risk? What is the TAT? How is the support and how are the reviews for the vendor in the market? Who is the key decision maker in vendor side? All this above data points can help us to either communicate or negotiate effectively

Questions to be relevant. it's thrown towards understanding the project perspective, than to express our knowledge on the subject.. i recommend, the vendor to be allowed to express their product details, and in relevant places, we ask the right questions, which are not deviating the topic.

After vendor meeting/Interview I send MOM and schedule a follow up meeting with an agenda that was discussed or to be worked upon. This should be done immediately once the meeting/Interview is over. Open for further suggestions...
