I think as human beings, it is a basic instinct to process information basis our judgement and biases. Thus, it is essential to understand and neutralising our own biases while listening to someone. By doing so, we objectively listen and develop a tendency to appreciate the views and ideas of others.

Knowing how, why and what is important to any senior stakeholder in any situation (group or 1:1) can help you both drive the discussion to your needs, while meeting the needs, emotional and work required, of the senior manager(s).
