One to one and face to face with real life illustrations/examples work far better than safety apps and online material for most manufacturing sites. You have to use a mix of communication media. The online material has its place but it is not the be all and end all of effective safety communication

Close the Loop! There are many different forms of HSE communication out there from Safety Committees to "Hazard Hunts" to Signage to JSA/JHAs and Toolbox Talks. And they all serve a purpose. Unfortunately, all of these start to whither over time and lose their punch because leadership fails to Close the Loop. To really ramp up communication from the guys on the front lines, you need to Close the Loop. Close the Loop means acknowledging that someone has taken the time to bring something to your attention and saying "thank you". Recognize the person in front of their peers for contributing to keeping everyone safe. And then act on the information, if appropriate, or give feedback on why the issue cannot be resolved immediately.

There are lots of ways to communicate and correct real-time safety and health discrepancies at workplaces: First, it is very crucial to be witnessing the day to day activities of a working group as to be familiarized as well to each task they are performing in a particular area. It helps safety professionals understand and identify existing hazards very easily. For a particular task, if there are lack of safety controls incorporated in an existing JSA or LHA or AHA, it can be approached on the spot to correct all un-identified hazards and have the chance to mitigate the risk instantly as the work progress by incorporating new safety controls for those new identified hazards in a particular task and workplace. Be Proactive, Not Reactive.

I can attest to the importance of regular training sessions. They are the backbone of a proactive safety culture. Effective communication is key in identifying and mitigating risks before they escalate into incidents. Training should be dynamic and tailored to the specific needs of the industry, ensuring that employees are equipped with the knowledge to handle the unique challenges they may face. Additionally, incorporating real-life scenarios and hands-on practice can significantly enhance the retention and application of safety protocols.

If you do not train them, then do not blame them. Training influences positive safety culture and create indepth knowledge better than just awareness. After initiating safety apps and modern technology in managing workplace HSE systems, workers must be trained on the use, importance and benefits of it.

Empowering employees with knowledge cultivates a safety-conscious workforce, actively engaged in maintaining workplace safety. Training has a very importance place, but it must be monitored for effectiveness and engagement. It’s not a barrier in itself but a means of communicating information that will protect the individuals. Training provides a good opportunity for workforce engagement too so feedback loops about site safety issues should be in place where possible.

We should conduct Safety training for all the staff and employees for knowing their issues and giving a good and standard advice to avoid accident and property loss.

When I refer to feedback, I mean active counselling post any unsafe act.Those feed back sessions drive two aspects of safety improvement. One is the leadership commitment and other one is the aspect of care and compassion. The person who goes through such counselling realises the gap and also commits to do safe work. What more one can expect??

I've found that strategically placed signage not only serves as a reminder of the company's commitment to safety but also acts as a guide for employees to follow in case of an emergency. These visual cues are essential for loss prevention and ensuring that safety protocols are second nature to the team. It's important to regularly update and review these aids to ensure they remain relevant and effective.

Great in the right places as a reminder, but can quickly become ‘wall paper’. Nothing beats being available and visible to staff.

Visual aids are one of the most important means of spreading awareness of potential risks in the workplace, as it's easily understood by workers regardless of their culture or language, because it doesn't only contain writings, but is reinforced with symbols that is easy to understand and know their meaning. Therefore, it is necessary to distribute them adequately in the workplace and cover all risks, even the simple ones, because workers have the right to know them to avoid it.

I believe that a Safety culture developing (SCD) project can do what we are looking for because that kind of project are designed to do all the previous point through number of stages and layers. - The (SCD) Simply contain a special tool called SCA Safety Culture Assessment tool that designed to evaluate the organization (HSE, prossess safety, employee performance, operation safety, documentation, ......) and after we collect the information we do the assignment then we can make a Master Action plan to develop the safety, operation, and performance for the organization through the required training and coaching session on spot and so on, this project should be done by well trained safety coaches. It isn't an option but it's real.
