Stakeholder feedback is an essential part of your overall decision making process. We often see questions on these articles talking about data and quantitative approaches, so I'm glad to see an article today about something qualitative. Ensure that the process of getting feedback is open-ended, you can send out surveys, conduct focus group interviews, questionnaires...options are many! Stakeholder feedback must be organized by importance and positional value to your final decision (in terms of impact on them). If they're someone that won't be impacted, their advice becomes less important.

This next step is critical and often missed: get to the why. Quantitative (the numbers), only tell you WHAT is happening, but don’t tell you why. Qualitative adds the critical context behind the numbers. It tells the story from the users perspective. This is where bias gets stopped, where incorrect assumptions are squashed. I tell my team, “Don’t say I think, say I know. Never assume, ASK the user.” The best product is the one that solves a real problem, that people will use. Numbers show where the deeper questions need to be, ask them.
