It's essential to establish the ground rules for engagement, such as mutual respect, confidentiality, and the goal of reaching a resolution that benefits the program. Tension when setting expectations is not a completely bad thing. If it facilitates a process of truth in understanding then it is worth exploring. However, tension left unchecked can be the end of a project before it has a chance to mature. Be courageous and humble, keeping in mind the importance of your end goal. As opposed to taking a defensive stance that can be a barrier to your project/program taking flight.

Facilitating dialogue is a delicate balance of ensuring that each stakeholder has the opportunity to voice their concerns while guiding the conversation towards productive outcomes. Use active listening and rephrase statements to clarify meanings, which can help diffuse tension and encourage mutual understanding. Yes, I agree that as the coordinator it is your role to both facilitate and mediate discussions. AND, it is the responsibility of the stakeholders to arrive to the discussion briefed and prepared for the discussion and work session. It is not the role of the facilitator to repeat discussion and or materials for unprepared participants to the deficit of the whole. Offering a recap of prior discussion and decision points, at the start of a session, becomes a great compromise as a facilitator to keep things on track.

After thoroughly understanding the conflict and facilitating an open dialogue, it's time to offer solutions. These should be practical, achievable, and, most importantly, acceptable to all parties involved. You might need to be creative, combining elements from different suggestions or proposing compromises. It's crucial that stakeholders feel their input has contributed to the resolution; this not only solves the immediate issue but also strengthens relationships for future collaboration.

Once stakeholders agree on a resolution, it's your responsibility to ensure that decisions are implemented effectively.
