L'identification des erreurs est le point de démarrage de la résolution des problèmes d'incohérence des données. Pour ce faire, le tri à plat ou croisé permet de visualiser les données tout en recherchant d'éventuelles anomalies telles que les valeurs extrêmes,les erreurs de saisie,etc.La durée de l'enregistrement d'un formulaire donné,le temps écoulé entre le premier formulaire enregistré et le second,le date/jour de l'enregistrement,la répartition des enquêtes par sexe,etc.,sont des informations qui aident le gestionnaire de données à émettre quelques hypothèses relative à la provenance ce type d'anomalie.Chacune de ces hypothèses sera testée afin d'identifier s'il s'agit d'une erreur humaine ou falsification intentionnelle des données
