The basis for executive search is a clear job profile. In briefings with my clients I always work out a job profile (6 categories: organism, environment, cognitive requirements, motivation, emotion and social requirements). We define together the specific demands within the categories, the ways to measure it and the question whether they are trainable and/or condensable. Afterwards the client can make a list of "must-haves" and "nice-to-haves" and I can identify candidates which meet all the "must-haves" and as much "nice-to haves" as possible

I prefer messages (text messages and emails). Applicants can read the messages at a convenient time and decide whether they want to respond or not. In the past, I used to call applicants directly, but often reached them at inconvenient times or they had no interest in a job offer at all.

By creating content on Linkedin! Yes, you heard right, if you are an experienced recruiter, candidates are following you. Nowadays, one of the ways to reach passive candidates is to use Linkedin actively and efficiently. Sharing your experiences constructively. Some passive candidates (who no one else can reach) who see stories that identify with them can reach you themselves?

If you're competing for attention in just email- you're one of about 500 others. The importance of other channels is incredibly important- Linkedin, call and text being the others.

First of all, let's accept this. Standard messages are no longer of interest to anyone. Let's imagine that you are one of the limited number of talents who have expertise in a very difficult field. I receive in-mail from them every day and the message titles/contents of each are similar to each other. Which ones would you respond to? Of course, for those whose stories attract and excite you. For each role and for some candidates, we sometimes spend half of our day discussing story-building and what our added value is! The results are quite positive.

There are already very useful tools to generate automated messages that truly look like personal messages. However, I exclusively write personal messages because, on the one hand, it shows appreciation and, on the other hand, there are only a handful of truly suitable candidates for a position. I want to reach out to them as effectively as possible and give them the feeling of exclusivity from the very beginning

It is extremely important to make sure that your outreach is catered to the needs of the candidate you are reaching out to. Addressing them by their first name makes the outreach/inmail seems more personal. Talking about their current role(in the outreach) makes it obvious that you have thoroughly gone through their profile. Explaining to them the reason why you feel they would fit the role basically shows that you are aware of what you ought to hire for. I am sure adding these basic changes instead of the generic outreach will make you stand out and get a response.

This is tremendously important when sourcing for and communicating with executive-level candidates- every single communication should be a unique one tailored to that person and the situation. If it's the original sourcing message- do your research before sending, look through their profile, google their name, learn something about the person so you can truly craft a personalized message.

All of the tactics in the world of attracting high-performing talent will ONLY reach the highest level of success IF your team engages the RIGHT individuals to communicate/interact with the talent. The Law of Attraction strongly exists within recruitment. Thinking through WHO is attracting the talent is always the 1st step. When the WHO is right, all other efforts will naturally be more successful.

In recruitment- trust is important. There are so many bad recruiters out there, so naturally- when candidates meet a recruiter for the first time, they may be hesitant and you need to "prove" your value/trust. You have a very narrow window to build that trust so do it by adding value.

For executive level searches is important to build a personal brand in your industry. This will help increase referrals and candidates reaching out to you, consider attending - in person networking events - conferences - trade shows or skill training programs

Making their job search process easier will build a better relationship and show more value. Understanding that everyone's "needs" are different: some will be attracted by a higher title, whereas others may be attracted by more money and don't ask about title. A third group may care more about what the "opportunity" brings, and if it's there- they don't care about money or title. It's all about balance and realizing that everyone is different. Understand those by asking straightforward questions and noting that for the future so they don't have to repeat themselves.

For executive-level search, it is important to have a strong network and relationship-building skills. This will help create a strong value and increase referrals as well.

There are so many ways to excel at being an executive recruiter. There is no one way to do it. Your goal should be to always remain genuine to who you are and want to help/serve others the best way you can. If your goal is the $$ you will not do well. The motivator needs to come from a genuine passion to help others and change lives for the better. This is a difficult & ever-changing roller coaster of a career choice - top-of-the-world moments and then quickly thereafter, something goes astray - it takes grit and true passion to help and serve others. Without each, you likely will struggle within executive recruiting.
