In a complex world not one single type of Generation has the key, Renewables is part of the modern energy mix for today's society. The growth of renewables within the outer zones of the electrical grids have resulted in needed investment on the local and national grids. Therefore communities now have access to a more reliable grid, the intermittent nature of renewables is just a factor that most anti-renewables groups focus on. Having worked in Nuclear, Conventional and Renewables, its odd to see he same type of arguments against renewables that I saw against Nuclear. If we really look at our personal power consumption we all need to reduce it. Renewables has plenty of benefits I just think the messaging is poor.

I will try to be short. I bought a house +400m2 in a rural area next to a city. Initial electric invoice around 300€. I decided to implement a solar PV installation. I asked several people and request different offers. I choose the supplier that gave me more comfort based on experience, references, proper technical and sales speech, and local as service is important..."Mas Norte", not the cheapest by the way. They recommended solar PV with storage, arranged for me all subsides applications and they finally implemented the installation the best way you could make it. My invoice with all subsidies and a move to the regulated tariff (PVPC) went down to less than 40€ and I have an app where I can see how the pv and storage performs. Happiness!

Renewable energy has obvious advantages when it comes to impact on the environment. My country Kenya Generation Mix comprises about 80% renewable energy sources including hydro, geothermal, wind and solar. Over the last decade, the goal was to phase out most petroleum plants and just keep a few for emergency power. As a developing country, and with an installed capacity of less than 3000MW, there's need to consider higher generation to boost development. There's more potential for geothermal, solar and wind power. However, it would be interesting to be able to boost power production through nuclear power. There can be no development without substantial amount of Power to drive manufacturing.
Another way to inspire your community is to educate and inform them about the benefits and opportunities of renewable energy. You can organize or join events, workshops, webinars, or campaigns that showcase the latest technologies, innovations, and policies in the field. You can also invite experts, activists, or entrepreneurs to speak or demonstrate their work. You can use social media, newsletters, blogs, or podcasts to reach a wider audience and raise awareness.

I agree with esteemed colleagues who mentioned before that educating the community is a significant positive factor in supporting growth in renewable energy. Tell them of the environmental benefits, its long-term sustainability, its ability to provide jobs, and support towards local technological enhancements. Host town hall meetings, and community events to highlight the positives of RETs. For example, what if a community adopted initiatives such as distributed solar generation? Imagine a neighborhood where residents collectively invested in rooftop solar panels, generating clean energy and reducing electricity bills. This fosters community cohesion and sets an example for others to follow, creating a ripple effect,
A third way to inspire your community is to engage and collaborate with them on renewable energy projects and initiatives. You can start or join a community group, co-operative, or network that supports or promotes renewable energy in your area. You can also volunteer or donate to local organizations, charities, or schools that are involved in renewable energy activities. You can also partner with businesses, institutions, or governments that offer incentives, grants, or programs for renewable energy.

The first way to engage is to make it possible! The technologies are already available, at a cost that is now acceptable for most of the markets. So what needs to be done is to foster our entrepreneurial spirit and just try, test, experiment. That’s how, we have now at VINCI several subsidiaires aiming at developing renewable energy. One key is to base new activities on existing assets or capabilities. Therefore SunMind was initially dedicated to our airports platforms ; Solarvia to the highways in France ; Eliove to our own office buildings and CobraIS to the development of large scale production facilities. As we have to make it happen in every piece of business!

This is a big one as change is usually uncomfortable for a lot of people. Before you "engage and collaborate" I think you need to CONNECT. This is by being a part of their community, listening to their challenges and visions and really being a part of it all. If there is no connection, it's really hard to "engage and collaborate" because the trust isn't there. Once there is the connection, then a lot more can happen, more freely.

I am Connected with over 9,000 people through Linkedin. I do this to engage and meet interesting and like minded people. I do it to look for mutually beneficial outcomes. I also do it to educate people about renewables, particularly solar and batteries. i also want to learn from people about all aspects of the energy sector. The better we understand, the better we serve. And the environment is better, also. Connect, engage and collaborate. We all need to work together as a World Community.

Energy communities represent an exceptionally effective way to encourage support for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) within local communities. This is primarily due to their ability to directly involve individuals and groups in the process of energy production, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility towards renewable energy initiatives. At the core of energy communities is the principle of collective action. When people come together to invest in, develop, and manage renewable energy projects, they feel a stronger connection to these initiatives. People are more likely to advocate for and invest in something they have a direct stake in, and energy communities provide this opportunity.

In many parts of the country, especially rural areas, people have developed home-grown solutions where they buy solar panels and hook up DC fans and lights to ensure their basic daily needs are met. Collaboration and knowledge sharing, especially through district-level engagements, can be beneficial. TEVTAs and TVET should work with local communities to promote the offtake of solar technologies through capacity-building and project sharing.
A fourth way to inspire your community is to challenge and motivate them to take action and adopt renewable energy in their daily lives. You can set or join goals, pledges, or competitions that encourage people to reduce their energy consumption, switch to renewable sources, or invest in green solutions. You can also reward or recognize those who achieve or exceed their targets, or showcase their best practices and examples. You can also create or join a community of like-minded people who support and inspire each other.
A fifth way to inspire your community is to celebrate and appreciate the achievements and impacts of renewable energy. You can organize or attend events, festivals, or parties that celebrate the milestones and successes of renewable energy projects and initiatives. You can also share or highlight the stories, testimonials, or feedback of those who have benefited from renewable energy. You can also express your gratitude and appreciation to those who have contributed to or supported renewable energy in your community.

Having 11 years of experience within the wind industry. As you travell... you have many experiences out on the road. A key live-and-learn approach for me to give would be when and if you are travelling to different areas of the world. Simply be respectful of the places you go, and the people who live there. As they say, we are visitors to their homes so be respectful, and polite. The majority of the time it'll be reciprocated. Also giving the industry as a whole a continuous great name as one the the great renewable energy industries out there!
