How can you keep your team productive and engaged during repetitive tasks?

In my experience, teams should be encouraged to find innovative ways to accomplish the repetitive tasks. That way, the process becomes exciting and team will be more engaged in finding newer and better ways to achieve the end result. Additionally, focusing on doing the same thing in a different way will also eventually result in automating the process.

I strongly urge my team members to use all of their vacation days! It's essential to remember that these are not only paid days off but also a fundamental component of our comprehensive compensation package. Remember, our identities extend beyond our professional roles. To ensure sustained success, I recommend that teams collaboratively develop strategies to manage workloads during colleagues' absences. I suggest to do at the least three things for wholistic well-being. First foremost is to utilise time-off to connect with self and family. Second is to regularly practice meditation and gratefulness for better mental health and Third is regularly do physical activity. It can be yoga, gym or any sport. This helps not just in physical health but it's fun too especially if make it a little competitive.

Regularly hold coffee talk with my team members, mostly outside office environment so that conversation be more casual and related non work related. This enable relationship to be more relaxed and casual hence team members will open up.

Leverage technology to automate repetitive aspects of the tasks where possible. This not only increases efficiency but also frees up time for team members to focus on more meaningful and challenging aspects of their work. Breaks are important to prevent burnout. Encourage short breaks during the day to help team members recharge. Consider incorporating activities like stretching exercises or mindfulness practices.

The majority of tasks that are significantly repetitive and also hold low cognitive value (or low relational value) have the potential to be automated. It could be a good exercise to give team members the challenge of finding new ways or proposing new tools to automate those tasks, especially if multiple team members or multiple teams are dealing with the same types of repetitive tasks. Especially in the age of AI, there will almost always be a way to automate or increase efficiency. In providing this type of challenge, you are also: 1) empowering your team - since they're actually problem-solving their way out of their frustrations (or trying to)! 2) increasing engagement - since you're adding a source of motivation & sense of control.

By combining these strategies, you can create an environment that not only supports productivity but also keeps your team engaged and motivated during repetitive tasks.
