1 Set clear goals

Before you engage in any team-building activity, it's important to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and how it aligns with your team's objectives and values. Do you want to improve your problem-solving skills, foster creativity, or enhance communication? Do you want to address a specific challenge or conflict, or celebrate a success or milestone? Having a clear goal will help you choose the right activity, set expectations, and measure outcomes.

It's important to clear with your target . Considering the target you need to set goals to achive it . Goal should be clear and easy to understand. Goal should be time bounded .

Setting a goal for your teambuilding session is good, but it's not the best thing you can do. The most powerful teambuilding sessions I have been a part of are those which clearly articulated the 'difference' they were going to make. If your can clearly articulate exactly what this difference will look like, sound like and feel like, your teambuilding session is more like to achieve its objective. IMHO, program goals are designed for the facilitator, whereas articulating the difference your program is going to have is 100% focused on the impact your program will have on those who matter - your team.

2 Be open-minded

Team-building activities can sometimes take you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to try new things, interact with different people, or express your opinions and emotions. While this can be daunting, it can also be rewarding if you approach it with an open mind and a positive attitude. Be willing to learn from others, share your insights, and have fun. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, ask for help, or give feedback. Remember that team-building is not a competition, but a collaboration.

To be open-minded in team building, setting the stage is crucial: besides having your goals clear (and doing your team building for the right reasons, based on the team's needs and current state), make sure you also build the right atmosphere for the activities. At the beginning discuss what everyone expects from the team building, what fears they might have and how they want to approach this exercise and work together during this time, so everyone feels included and safe to open up.

The key to engagement is having fun. And by fun, I'm not talking about delivering a comedy routine or telling jokes. A true definition of fun is to nourish one's soul. When you invite people to participate in a series of carefully sequenced experiences that are fun, non-threatening and honour choice - you are more likely to engage them fully, than otherwise.

4 Reflect and apply

After the team-building activity, it's important to reflect on what you learned, how you felt, and what you can apply to your work. You can do this individually or as a group, depending on the activity and the goal. Some questions you can ask yourself or your team are: What did you enjoy or dislike about the activity? What did you learn about yourself, your team, or your work? How did the activity affect your trust, communication, or collaboration? How can you use what you learned to improve your work performance or relationships?

One of the useful tools are "Start, Stop and Continue". Basically the team works together to come up with 3 points under each category to reach the goal. For instance - To achieve X goal - we will "START" so and so things. Every fortnight you can visit these points and do dip checks.

5 Follow up

The team-building experience doesn't end when the activity is over. You need to follow up on the outcomes, feedback, and action plans that emerged from the activity. You can do this by setting regular check-ins, meetings, or surveys to monitor progress, celebrate achievements, or address challenges. You can also reinforce the learnings and behaviors by incorporating them into your daily work routines, such as giving recognition, sharing ideas, or solving problems. You can also plan for future team-building activities to keep the momentum going and build on the results.
