How can you use artificial intelligence to enhance your thought leadership?
Thought leadership is the ability to communicate a compelling vision, influence others, and inspire action. It can help you establish your reputation, expand your network, and generate new opportunities. But how can you use artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance your thought leadership? Here are some ways AI can help you create and share valuable insights, engage your audience, and improve your performance.
One of the challenges of thought leadership is creating original and relevant content that showcases your expertise and perspective. AI can help you overcome this challenge by generating content based on your inputs, such as keywords, topics, or questions. You can use AI tools to write blog posts, articles, newsletters, social media posts, or even books. AI can also help you optimize your content for SEO, readability, and tone. However, you should always review and edit the content generated by AI, and make sure it reflects your voice and values.

Using Generative AI in the process of creating thought leadership content can be considered for a few steps in the process. 1. Testing candidates for themes and topics, and focus on researching the ones further where Gen AI tools do not provide any meaningful answers. 2. Early stage brainstorming “with yourself” around possible directions for your point-of-view by testing a number of alternative direction prompts. 3. Scouting for facts from open data sources that can be used to size problems and business opportunities. Original thinking will still be required in your thought leadership programs and Gen AI can support you in establishing a solid base early when kicking off new initiatives.

We are living in a world of rapid change. Regardless of your experience level, nature of the work that you do, and where you do that work, it is essential to remain curious, open to learning, and proactive in learning and development. Engaging with AI-powered learning platforms to stay current on business and industry best practices, leadership techniques, and emerging technologies and leveraging personalized learning recommendations based on career goals and skill gaps leads to increased self-awareness and opportunities for team members to recognize that they are actually 'on the same page,' working toward common goals.

Use AI as a research assistant, or as a more targeted and relevant search tool; use it to develop an idea in "conversation," as you would with a friend or colleague. But if all you are doing is providing keywords and prompts to obtain AI-generated content, you are NOT a thought leader.

"Strong determination 💪" AI can help make content creation faster and easier, which enables thought leaders to focus on the things AI can't do, like focus on strategic goals such as: Growing an online presence (Lately posts the content, but you still have to ENGAGE) Changing leadership skills- With AI likely to replace some of the more 'technical' elements of leadership, such as data and information processing, greater emphasis will be placed on interpersonal skills and social competencies.

There absolutely must be a* human in the loop. Good, meaningful prompts, and validation of any answers provided by AI. *(at least one!)
Another challenge of thought leadership is finding and sharing quality content that supports your vision and adds value to your audience. AI can help you curate content by analyzing your preferences, interests, and goals, and recommending relevant sources, articles, podcasts, videos, or events. You can use AI tools to filter, summarize, and personalize the content you want to share, and schedule it across your platforms. AI can also help you monitor the feedback and engagement of your audience, and adjust your content strategy accordingly.

Make sure to add your sources and references. It is great to share other people's thoughts and content, but attribute, attribute, attribute. (Something a lot of people are forgetting in this AI Age!)

A great way to use AI to curate is by leveraging it to create content ideas and writing prompts. It can help with organizing and creating a robust list of topics to write about over an extended period of time. By doing this there is less “what should I write about today” and more focus on the actual writing and creation process.

I second what Raj Hayer said about the importance of citing your sources. It's one of the things I most dislike about generative AI. If it ever does offer citations, they are completely fabricated to match its hallucinations. I'm speaking from experience and not just from various reports of the same you can find from people who have tried to get source citations for the information obtained from generative AI. So for now you have to still do your own research -- both to find and credit the sources of information and to double-check the accuracy of generative AI. You have to do that with anything that's not 100%, and generative AI is nowhere close to that at this point.

AI can certainly make research more efficient by curating insights and intelligence from a wide variety of sources. However, there is still a very high risk of hallucinations, bias and opacity. Hence it's critical to use AI tools that are transparent about sources that should also be referenced in the content produced. In it's current form, AI generated research and insights must be independently verified and authenticated to avoid plagiarism and misinterpretations. However, the use of AI will dramatically cut down the time taken to generate timely insights, and disseminate across platforms.

In the realm of thought leadership, content curation is an art, and AI is our brush. It goes beyond algorithmic suggestions; it's about crafting a narrative that resonates with our ethos and engages our community. AI dissects our goals and audience insights, curating content that's not only relevant but also enriching. It's our digital ally in personalizing the message and measuring its impact, enabling us to adapt dynamically. This symbiosis of human insight and AI's analytical prowess is redefining the boundaries of influence and engagement in the digital age.
A key aspect of thought leadership is presenting your ideas and insights in a clear, convincing, and captivating way. AI can help you enhance your presentation by creating slides, graphics, animations, or videos that illustrate your points and capture your audience's attention. You can use AI tools to design, edit, and polish your presentation, and add features such as voiceovers, subtitles, or captions. AI can also help you practice and improve your presentation skills, by giving you feedback on your speech, tone, pace, and body language.
One of the benefits of thought leadership is expanding your network and reaching new audiences. AI can help you expand your network by identifying and connecting you with potential collaborators, partners, clients, or mentors. You can use AI tools to research and analyze your target audience, and find the best ways to approach and communicate with them. AI can also help you manage and nurture your relationships, by sending personalized messages, reminders, or follow-ups.

The most important tip about expanding your network is to communicate clearly. To do this, simplify your English with AI by requesting Lexile 1000L level. This middle-high school level is ideal for international business. You're aiming to communicate effectively in business, not to sound like a university professor. Stick to this level for clarity. Lexile levels, used by publishers, range from 100L for primary school to 2000L for complex subjects like medieval theology. Keeping your language straightforward and clear is crucial.

You can use AI tools to discover and explore new topics, trends, or opportunities, and deepen your knowledge and skills. The only reason why a good thought leader would use an AI platform is when the leader isn’t a strong writer. They are that thought leader because they lead with thought - incredibly fresh ideas - but when it comes time to getting those thoughts on paper…that’s the challenge. Because of this, the thought leader can LEARN and GROW by using the “Content Improver” prompt in the AI platform. Over time, those fresh ideas and captivating stories will become clear and concise, just as in voice.

AI can provide content but that is just the surface. As a researcher who has implemented AI in his work, I can leverage AI's capabilities to analyze large volumes of data, identify emerging trends, and generate insights that would be difficult or time-consuming to uncover manually. AI can assist in curating personalized content for different audience segments by understanding their preferences and behaviors, which allows thought leaders to tailor their messages more effectively. AI can also be instrumental in monitoring the reception of thought leadership content. Sentiment analysis and engagement metrics can provide feedback on how content is received, allowing for iterative improvements and more resonant communication strategies.

AI isn't going to enhance your thought leadership — not directly. Because thought leadership is the only type of content that can't do. However, AI can function as "another writer in the room." It can point out things that you've missed. Help make your writing better. These sorts of things.
