How can you use executive presence to inspire and motivate your team?

Executive presence means access to your prefrontal cortex. This allows access to the following 9 functions: 1. Body regulation 2. Attuned communication 3. Response-ability 4. Emotional Balance 5. Self knowing awareness 6. Empathy 7. Fear modulation 8. Wisdom 9. Integrity More so, it aligns our 3 brains 1. Cephalic Brain (Head) - Creativity 2. Cardiac Brain (Heart) - Compassion 3. Enteric Brain (gut) - Courage We can feel when a person is aligned because their nervous system is engaged. This is magnetic. Other people's nervous systems calms in their presence. Executive presence is the ability to regulate your breathing, therefore your heartbeat, which regulates the rest of the body.

Executive presence is how you show up. It's more than what you say, it's how you deliver your message, how relatable you are, and how to make others feel. A person with highly tuned executive presence can make others feel acknowledged and welcome.

Executive presence generally refers to how people preserve you. From your appearance to your words and how you react to situations. It comprises of your personality as a person. What are the things you hold dear to you? What are you passionate about? What do you believe in? I will say all these attributes to what executive presence means.

Totally agree! Being an executive requires more than just dressing the part; it also involves projecting calmness, confidence, and a sincere love for your work. Some persons with a calm style and friendly attitude have made a lasting impression, while others with wonderful outfits and polished speaking have failed to dominate a room. It all comes down to presenting oneself with conviction and sincerity.

Executive presence is the art of projecting confidence, clear communication, and authenticity. It involves maintaining composure, cultivating a professional image, and connecting on both rational and emotional levels. This intangible quality, blending charisma, adaptability, and strategic thinking, is a key leadership asset that transcends job titles. Developing executive presence is an ongoing journey of self-awareness and skill refinement to leave a strong, positive impact in professional interactions.

Everything a leaders does is being watched by the people following him or people he is guiding. You would want people that are looking up to you to also form the right habits and approach to situations. Having a great executive presence will eventually show in those watching you because they will emulate the right things. You will lead better and be a leader that listens.

A strong executive presence is a "must-have" quality for all leaders. This inspires trust and respect from the team. Leaders with a strong EP command attention, motivate their teams & lead with confidence. Their clear communications, emotional intelligence & ability to make sound decisions contribute to a positive & productive work environment.

A person with executive presence is often in flow. Their words, actions, body language and the way they connect with people are seamless and intentional. Leaders need to demonstrate executive presence, but they need to do so in a way that works for them. Craft your style of executive presence, dont try to be like someone else or it will come across as inauthentic.

He who inspires confidence, credibility, and trust amongst the followers is a true leader, a charismatic one whose task is half done by his mere presence.

Again I disagree. To grow an executive presence requires existing trust and respect for your leadership and authority. Not the other way around. Executive presence is useful in so far as it has power to influence. When you show up, when you speak, when you act, people pay attention.

Practice Practice Practice! Record yourself, role play presentations in front of your leaders, become adept in various communication styles so you can adapt to your audience. Prep work prior to any kind of meeting doesn't just include whatever your material is, it includes knowing who you're presenting to; what industry are they in, what do they typically wear, how do they generally speak. You can't show up to a farm wearing Gucci heals. Lastly, there will be times you fail at this. Learn from your mistakes to make yourself better in the future. Executive presence is crafted, it's not an inherent trait.

In my experience keep it simple. Communicate with conviction, showing genuine enthusiasm for shared goals. Demonstrate empathy and actively listen to team members, acknowledging their contributions.

What I have found to be important is to learn about yourself, being comfortable and humble about the good and the bad, and finally looking to constantly improve yourself, your character, and skills. The situations to practice this are everywhere. It doesn't have to be a formal meeting or presentation, every interaction is an opportunity. Focus on listening then count to 5 before responding. It isn't always about being the first to speak or having the loudest voice. If you are humble and self aware then you will have your own voice and your presence is unique and your own.

I strongly believe that there is nothing we can’t learn once we are willing to learn, unlearn and then relearn the right things. Watch how your colleague act around you. See if people like coming to you when they are having challenges at work. Generally, the more you learn and willing to work on criticism, the more you become a better leader and have the right executive presence.

You cannot change if you want to grow. A tiger cannot change its stripes. They are a pattern unique to that animal; part of the fur and skin. It can’t change its basic nature. I’ve seen it written that a brand should not change its stripes. That consistency is key if it is to grow followers. So you can’t change if you want to grow…?! But what if you earn new stripes? “To do something which shows that one deserves to be accepted and respected by the other people in a field or profession.” Military promotions will increase the ‘bar code’ you wear on your chest. A ‘ladder of leadership rungs’ you’ve climbed. You’ve visibly changed. So what stays, and what goes, as your personal brand grows?

The one thing an executive will need to do much more than any other member in the team is… don’t wallow but energize. Above everything, executive presence means to convey the feeling of forward looking optimism, even in the darkest moments. It’s human nature to sometimes get stuck when things don’t run well, or fall into blaming behavior. The simple hard thing that executive presence is all about, is to propel your team forward. Take the learnings, acknowledge and take the frustration and convert that into positive energy.

If you have the right aurora, it will affect everyone around you. Having the right personality and presence should be an advantage to impact others positively. Learn to involve people in what you are doing and be open to correction.

Lead by example! 1) Visually – Look the part; from your attire, polished appearance, and the way in which you hold yourself in front of them. 2) Aurally – Sound the part; demonstrate product/service knowledge and expertise through confidence in your message delivery. 3) Mentally – Act the part; own the room/space in a confident, purposeful, and respectful way. Execute on these three executive features and you can inspire and motivate your team to achieve greatness.

To me it is to maintain a confident demeanor and lead by example. Make them feel you are one of them. You instill confidence when when there is a sense of belonging. It builds up a positive and inclusive working environment conducive to growth and productivity.

To inspire and motivate people, you need to have a presence. If no one is really listening then you don't have a presence and you won't be motivating or inspiring anyone anytime soon. But when you do have a presence, then this adage has been good advice for me: "If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea."

Whatever you do, don’t believe that you know it all and never insist that your opinion is the best even when others are trying to make you see the lapses. We keep learning and getting better daily. Show interest in others and listen more.

Forgetting to keep the ego in check. Always remember that you are there to serve others not to boost your own image. Be of service.

Common pitfalls in using executive presence include neglecting emotional intelligence, being inauthentic, ignoring diversity, micromanaging, poor communication, resistance to feedback, inflexibility, lack of empathy, overconfidence, neglecting professional development, failure to delegate, ignoring team dynamics, rigidity, and lack of vision. Leaders should be mindful of these pitfalls to maintain a positive and effective executive presence.

It's essential to be genuine and true to yourself. Trying to imitate someone else's style or behavior can come across as insincere and may not resonate with your colleagues or team. Authenticity is key, as people tend to trust and respect leaders who are true to themselves and their values.

I think the major pitfall is in thinking that executive presence is something you pull out of your tool box whenever you need it. It isn't. People feel your presence even if you didn't intend to. Executive presence merely enhances your existing character. It doesn't change you as a person. Hence, for me it is more important to focus on developing good character and being humble.

Sharpening your five senses helps you develop a better executive presence. A leader cannot let his guards down on or off the parade. He is under scrutiny at all times.
