How do you build a team culture of trust and empowerment?

It is important for the organization to define Values and Vision that drives the organization, Senior leadership teams should focus all their communications around the values and vision as defined and the same shall be percolated to the teams below day in and out. HODs should provide enough trust to team members where in they can share their suggestions and concerns without fear of being reprimanded, that will build a healthy culture in the organization.

Understanding culture and behaviour is very important for managers to achieve objectives. Trust, inclusion, ownership, and accountability are the building blocks for building strong teams. For trust building, identification of barriers is the key, followed by behavioural shift of team members from fear to confidence. For inclusion and ownership, listening and focusing on what and why something is important helps creates a team which feels included and takes ownership. Regular feedback, showing empathy, focusing on emotional state and creating positive energy during torrid times is a must.

Vision is knowing who you are (your purpose), knowing where you’re going (your picture of the future), and knowing the principles you need to guide your journey (your values). Think of vision as your North Star, guiding you every step of the way and providing you direction whenever you get lost in the busyness of life. Vision gives you clarity for the future while directing your attention to the present. On the contrary, the lack of vision prevents you from achieving success or significance in life.

Yes.At very outset ask team members about them and their family members individually, give feeling person comfortable with you and he will be stress free to understand your plans. He will understand your vision and more free to share his ideas. It give good bonding to team to achieve goals.

Leaders must lead by example because they are the standard-bearers, deficiency correctors, and overall role models for their followers. The leader is a symbol which brings together in one concentrated image the way people in a given social environment organize and give meaning and direction to their lives.

When stepping back and looking at delegation of tasks, it is so important to make sure you have insights on the way your team members learn if they are new to a role. Understanding the most effective way to communicate can create a better culture, empower that team member as well as let them know "you get them"!

Delegation should be purposeful and strengths-based. Don't simply give things you don't want to do to other people to lighten your load. Give people tasks that stretch them beyond their comfort zone. Then, you aren't just helping them learn the task - you're also teaching them that they are resilient and capable of more. Trust is telling a person, "You can do this", and them saying, "If you believe I can, then I believe it, too."

The best way to interact individually with each member of the team, which give feeling of their importance and satisfaction of personal ego. Identify individual skills, interests and abilities, then assign tasks as individual or group as required. Transparency among team which builds trust among team members.

First you should identify the knowledge and skillset your team member is possessing, then offer the right platform and resources to perform. We should always provide them with the right bandwidth and offer edequate opportunities to perform confidently.

When it comes to building a culture of trust and empowerment amongst the members, the leader should develop a system (whether supported by IT tools or not) by which team members can recognise and reward the contributions of each other. This can be achieved when individual team members are intrinsically motivated to share feedback.

Appreciate members and recognize their contributions. No room for criticism for unsuccessful members, motivate them for better working.

The simple act of saying thank you can truly change the trajectory of someone’s day, and it can go a long way toward establishing and building trustful relationships. Appreciation should not be limited to special occasions because our people do outstanding work daily, and we shouldn't take that for granted. We should deliberately express our appreciation.

It is very important to appreciate your team contributions and also give feedback and support where and when needed for performance that are below expectation.

Once you are free and personal touch with individuals, trust will develop. Always share your opinions and listen to individual ideas for targeting goal of team.

Having a culture that values feedback is undoubtedly important, but it's not always comfortable for people to receive or deliver constructive feedback. Empowering team members with problem solving and decision making brings the best of them on the table and they are able to develop themselves and prepare to come out of not so happy path in the future.

In my opinion, this is the most crucial stage of feeling empowered. True leader knows when and how and whom to involve in the process By challenging the status quo, the real people manager involves other people and surprises . The effect is most of the people learn, some get confidence to take future decisions and some actually start sharing their decisive opinions True and Genuine people manager does dare to bring people to those shores where they themselves plunge into waters and start taking responsibilities ...

Communication is the key. Don’t assume, ask! Ask your team members how they want to be treated, how they want to receive your feedback. Always ask them for their perspective of the issues you and they are facing. Give your team members the voice to describe their vision of the team and how they want to be included.

First step: I think that a leader should take the time to understand the members of the team and include them in the process of defining or clarifying the team vision, mission and mandate. If the team do not know you they are unlikely to trust you. If they do not trust you they are not likely to follow you. Demonstrating that each member matters and brings valuable contribution will be progress in the right direction.

You can start by doing what you expect your team members to do. Wheater you intent it or not, you are leading by example. So make sure you give the right one. The trust equation is also very insightful. The formula says that you should be Credible, Reliable and create Room to have an 'Intimate/Safe' relation with your team and make sure you are not Self-Oriented

The first step for me is to lead by example. When you show capabilities and competence, your team tend to listen and respect you. Combining this attribute with empathy, appreciation of the team and good communication that promotes feedback, the culture of trust and empowerment will definitely be built.

In my experience on how effective this is, we had a session in the first quarter of the year and it was titled “Guide to Working with Me”, we are a small team and we work virtually, this gave insight into how each person on the team wants to be communicated with, what time of the day they are most active and how they even like to spend their time off work. Getting to know your teammate helps in better communication and workflow.
