Formulate a clear and specific research question based on a research gap by identifying the gap through a comprehensive literature review. Narrow down the gap to a specific topic or issue that warrants investigation. Define the key variables or concepts involved and articulate the purpose and scope of the study. Ensure the research question is focused, concise, and measurable, addressing the gap in knowledge while guiding the direction of the research.

A good research question (RQ) forms backbone of a good research, which in turn is vital in unraveling mysteries of nature and giving insight into a problem. A good RQ helps support a focused arguable thesis and construction of a logical argument. Hence, formulation of a good RQ is undoubtedly one of the first critical steps in the research process

Research gaps are the areas of the study which are not adequately addressed or remain unanswered. There are multiple reasons due to which it can happen, lack of data, inefficient methodologies and contradictory findings are some of the reasons for it .

A research gap is an unresolved issue or question that previous studies have not adequately addressed. It emerges when reviewing existing literature, comparing methods, findings, and limitations. Ask this question several times – “If we fill this gap, how can we bring strong actionable insights that can potentially change the game for stakeholders related to the research problem?” (2) Formulate new research question and develop consensus among stakeholders on scope, approach and methodology, budget and/or delivery timelines. (3) Collaborate and communicate with all the stakeholders during the entire research process, make changes or pivot whenever required, and after concluding the research and sharing insights with the stakeholders, take their feedback/ suggestions on any new research gaps that would have emerged from the research.

I believe there is no single way to find out research gaps. You just need to be observant about what is there and what is lacking because many research question/Gap comes through the observation of day to day practice.
