I’m a piledriver so I would just tell them that they are lucky that the foundation is in the right hole…. Jk I would have a sit down with them and pinpoint if it was a misunderstanding, miscommunication , or mistake. Then throughly explain the process in a different language that’s more appropriate for their knowledgeable capacity, or investigate where the line of communication failed and assure them that we were on schedule, or finally take responsibility for the mistake , correct it , and assure them that this sort of thing would never happen again.

In complex and novel buildings, keep all engineering deliverables, presentations, and records current, updated and readily available using shared repositories. BIM modelling only goes so far, and strategic and tactical decisions need accurate recording reinforced with a robust Management of Change (MOC) process. Engage clients in area-by-area design and model reviews outside the structured acceptance reviews, requesting their input on alternative selection and issue resolution. Maintain an appropriate auditable decision log and keep the lessons learned log active and communicated. Be open and transparent, with a no-surprises mentality at each step. Onboard the client's facility maintenance team to the project processes as they mobilize.
