I love the SMART goal model but often leaving it there can find the coachee falling short of the leap in progress many hope for. Making goals SMART-ER invites coachees to think bigger: E: evolution - what does the NEXT evolution of growth look like? R: Revved Up: make sure goals are motivating for inspired action. This provides ongoing fuel especially when the client hits roadblocks or speed bumps along the way (when an otherwise un-motivating goal can result in slowed progress or worse, stagnation)

Requesting feedback at regular intervals is a powerful way to assess impact, effectiveness, and if the coachee is getting what they need from the process every step of the way. I have found that one of the best ways to do this is with a simple feedback form asking specific questions. It allows the coachee to fully consider progress and the difference being made. It also allows for adjustments to be made as you go to meet the coachees needs better.
