Remember ASCI and UNICODE stored data which required no encryption because you could trust that the server was secure? Anyone can write a subroutine to pore through raw unencrypted data for use in multiple applications. Now, we have libraries of subroutines to use provided everyone is on the same page and can see the same data.

If you really prefer going outside the industry standards then I advise you to use open source code so that others using your platform that are skilled can perhaps add nice features and submit them to you for consideration in your upcoming releases. No one person wants to constantly take on every single feature request no matter how small it is. So it's best to recruit the free talent out there that enjoys programming just for the sake of coding.
