One of the most impactful ways is to hero amazing leaders in the workplace. As an external leadership consultant, I love taking small groups of brilliant leaders at an organisation and teaching them my Outcomes Over Hours strategies. We think because we hear that we are listening, but listening is a skill that needs to be built and purposefully used. So while communication is key, I would put listening specifically at the top of all communication. Really hearing what someone is saying, and not saying, is a great way for that person to feel valued and understood and creates a great foundation to move forward on in terms of meeting your strategic objectives. Listening takes patience, presence, and care and, if we're in a rush or overly focused on proving ourself as right, we miss the chance to really engage in that deeper way.

It’s proactively addressing your audience’s anxieties and building up their confidence in you. A good stakeholder manager understands that her work doesn’t always speak for itself.
