-12db average is typically fine for me, but do not be tricked - louder is not necessarily better, even though our ears may say so. One should be able to record on a modern microphone of decent quality at -18db, and if clip gain needs to be added later that can be done in your DAW. You will want to ensure that your microphone noise level is lower than -20 (different measurement than what you use to measure loudness) and this can be achieved with a relatively inexpensive mic.

J'aime généralement appliquer une compression discrète sur mon signal d'entrée pour apporter du punch et de l'impact à la voix sans éliminer sa dynamique et contrôler d'avantage le gain d'entrée. Je travaille beaucoup avec le 1176 de chez UAD qui me permet d'enregistrer sans l'effet direct en mode UAD MON de ma prise vocal et donc d'appliquer le même réglage au mix si désirer. Pour certain artistes avec qui j'ai l'habitude de travailler, j'utilise la fonction UAD REC avec leur réglage personnelle.
