Balancing artistic shot composition with tight deadlines can be challenging, but it's possible with the right approach. Plan meticulously before shooting, using storyboards and shot lists to ensure creativity fits within time constraints. Prioritize key shots that enhance storytelling while using simpler setups for others. Embrace efficient tools and techniques like pre-visualization or multi-camera setups to save time without sacrificing quality. Clear communication with the team also ensures everyone stays aligned on both creativity and timelines.

Pick your battles. Not every shot needs to be your Magnus Opus. Don't put the camera in a crazy place just because you can. Pick shots that add another layer to the story. Take a commercial for example, if you've got 2-3 'artistic' shots that's going to show your visual POV and not take away from your message. Good visual storytelling is what you are aiming for. Often it is the most simple angle. Light it well, get a great performance and then once your client is feeling good about what you've filmed, then move on to something a bit more experimental, fun. So that's pick your battles and pick your moment.

I always come back to "The Engineering Triangle: Fast, Cheap, Good -- Pick Two." An artistic shot is GOOD, and a tight deadline means FAST, so it won't be CHEAP. If you have the budget to accommodate the artistry and timeline, and your story depends on it, go for it! However, necessity is the mother of invention. Boundaries around time and resources lead to creative problem-solving. You might surprise yourself and find a solution you wouldn't have invented otherwise. Underscoring all of this is a reminder of why a Contingency (10% or higher) is essential in your video production budgets.
