A student is causing chaos in your class. How can you effectively bring peace back to the classroom?

Indeed, staying calm would be the basic step to tackle such situation, but the main focus of a tutor should be to know the reason behind it. Because, a teacher is a guide, a mentor not a dictator. Therefore, a tutor must try to counsel the student by knowing the main reason behind his such behavior. According to me, no student is good or bad, it is all about the different perceptions and sometimes the circumstances which result into such scenarios. Hence, a teacher must remain calm and try to find out the root cause behind it so that appropriate guidance could be given to the student.

Yelling and screaming at a chaotic student will not assist you. Remember: Students will do disruptive items in class to get attention from their teachers. Allowing them to anger you gives them what they want.

Making eye contact with the student is much beneficial in these types of situations. Tutor should stay calm in any situation and tutor can talk with the student privately about the reason for his behavior. Once the student demonstrates appropriate behavior, acknowledge and praise them.

Acredito que o conhecimento individual por aluno ajude a tomar uma atitude nessa situação, primeiro, preciso entender o que acalmaria aquele aluno, talvez ir beber uma água, ou até mesmo trazer ele mais pra perto... Mas, primeiro precisamos ter uma postura que espelhe um comportamento mais calmo. Em minha epoca como professora, eu fazia momentos de respiração quando a turma estava agitada, tinha um sino na sala, e sempre que aquele som surgia, TODOS (inclusive eu) fazíamos uma pausa pra respiração (assopra a vela, cheira flor haha). Tudo vai depender da turma, do aluno, do momento. Mas, é importante ter uma postura amigável mas sempre perder o tom de respeito. Ficar de olho pro que pode estar acontecendo, é importante também!

Empathy, relationship, and listening are important tools. Building a relationship before behavior occurs is helpful as is listening. This helps all of us have compassion and empathy for such a student which research finds to be calming and healing to humans.

Para a análise do comportamento, o comportamento é definido como uma ação/reação do organismo em resposta ao ambiente em que está inserido. Por isso, o primeiro passo é observar atentamente o aluno e tentar compreender o que está por trás dos comportamentos disruptivos. Quando esses comportamentos ocorrem? Com que frequência? Na minha opinião, descobrir o que causa comportamentos inadequados em sala de aula é o primeiro passo para a mudança.

When a student is causing chaos in the classroom, one of the first things I do is seek to understand the cause of the disruption. I often start by having a conversation with the student to see if they’re bored with the lesson or if there’s another underlying reason for their behavior. If that’s not possible during class, I invite them to my office for a one-on-one chat to identify the root of the problem. In cases where the disruption is not severe, I focus on the students who are on task. I praise and encourage their positive behavior, this helps to regulate the classroom.

Always follow through with your class expectations and rules. Do not bend the rules for students, do not let them slide for days you cannot manage the class. Have a rule, have a consequence, make sure they are reasonable and you explain it to students. Remember, they are still learning behaviors and need you as a mentor for whats right and whats wrong, allowing one student to slide off with a rule will show them that you are going to be unfair.

We have all been in this situation Start by acknowledging and praising students who are on task and behaving well. This sets a positive example and reinforces desired behaviors. Next, address the disruptive behavior calmly and privately with the student, focusing on specific actions and their impact on the class environment. Offer solutions or alternatives to redirect their behavior positively, such as assigning a leadership role or providing positive attention for compliant behavior. You can foster a more harmonious classroom atmosphere by reinforcing positive behaviors consistently and addressing disruptions promptly and constructively.
