As a founder of a few companies I had to realise that I am capable of doing a lot, but not everything and if we really want to succeed, every team member has to focus on what they are the best at instead of teaching and expecting everyone to be good/mediocre at everything.
In theory, leadership positions are rare, realistically, most positions require a high level of leadership skills starting with oneself. That is the first exam. If a team member is not pro-active, accountable and respected by others, there is a tiny chance that person would rise to the level of formal leadership in a company that is serious about its sustainability, people and growth.
