Users are challenging your design principles. How can you navigate their feedback effectively?

Customers who provide feedback care about your product and are willing to take time to let you know what you are doing well, but most likely how they feel you could do better. Some customers are loud, so you should definitely make sure you consider the overall picture with the feedback they provide. One mistake you can make is to prioritize feedback too much. In this case, you lose control of your product as you chase every whim of your customers. However, the worst thing you can do is make customers feel like you don't care about them or their feedback. Once that perception exists, your product will flounder as you struggle to figure out what you should be doing. There is a tight balance to find and it will be different for every product.

Embracing feedback is not something we want to do naturally, the natural thing would be to dismiss feedback. But embracing feedback is a skill we can learn because if the feedback are not first embraced it may be difficult to proffer a solution.

Collect feedback of your users. Always collect metrics of your application to bring insights for the product and design team. With metrics you can improve your users’ experience. This is where strong product leadership is important. Understanding your customers and your product goals are important. You should make decisions here based on data. Feelings are dangerous because angry or loud customers can push you in a direction. Another potential problem with not using data is your ideas may differ from what your customers do or want. Data-driven decisions help you make prioritization decisions that will make your customers happy. Another thing to think about is dumping backlog that isn't done after a certain period of time. If you carry backlog for three years that are always lower priority, maybe pruning them is a good idea.

Iterating design is a fundamental aspect of creating successful projects. It involves continuously refining and improving the design based on user feedback and testing results. By adopting an iterative approach, you can make incremental changes, test them, and gather insights before moving on to the next iteration. This cycle of design, test, and refine ensures that the project evolves in response to real user needs and experiences.
