What do you do if a setback in insurance becomes an opportunity for growth?

Change is inevitable in this industry and life! How you react will be a reflection of how you handle life in general. I've learned to roll with the punches and take each day as it is. It's better to be adaptable than to fight against change. It's ok to have an opinion but think before you speak about it.

Change is a constant, even in our very conservative industry. Also, change has accelerated massively in the last ten years because of the Insurtech revolution and it doesn't look like it's going to stop. Learn to roll with the punches and be the person that welcomes change with a smile and looks for the silver lining!

One would consider the obstacles and struggles an opportunity to embrace this change, either in industry evaluation or technological advancements. The insurance industry is complex due to the nature of governance and its legal aspects. It's critical to embrace the changes that are evolving as opportunities move.

Our industry is always going thru the ups and downs, and setbacks are always going to happen. When they are faced, take a look at all the other opportunities that are out there, when one door closes another one opens. This industry is going thru a revelation and the old system is leaving, and this as the young generation need to step up and do our part and make a change. Stay motivated and fresh!

Scheduling periodic reviews of your insurance portfolio is one way to stay ahead of any coverage gaps as your business changes and insurance products evolve. It's important to communicate with your agent about significant changes in terms of target markets, products, services and business metrics.

Our industry has the incredible advantage that you can VERY quickly learn a lot by doing some insurance designations, paid for by your employer. All you have to do is study and make yourself better at the job you're doing AND more valuable for the rest of your career. CPCU is the gold standard in the carrier side. CIC is very popular on the agency side. If you want a softer starting point look at AINS or at the ARM to CPCU path.

Career growth is a 3-legged stool and networking is one of the legs of the stool. The best time to build your network is last year. The second best time to build your network is right now. Re-evaluating goals periodically is crucially important. You live. You learn. You change the plan. My own plan changed radically over time from "I want to be the CEO of Nationwide" to "I don't even want to be a manager, I want to to be a visible thought leader with a passion for insurance and insurance career."

It doesn't matter how many times you fail, as long as you keep trying. The person who never gives up eventually wins, every time. Read Grit.
