Leadership comes from a sense of ownership. Young engineers need not only to learn, but also to contribute. To this effect, the universities and the electrical engineering industry should do the following - Companies need to have intern programs for graduate and senior undergrad students. Here they'll learn professionalism and industry standards. Crucially though, they should be given real responsibilities, not just observe and learn - so that they can take pride in their work. - University graduate programs and research labs need to include undergraduates in their research. Under the mentorship of senior grad students, they can make meaningful contributions. Thus, the current generation is trained in leadership while the next is inspired.

All of the above mentioned aspects are very important in shaping a young engineer into a seasoned professional. What I consider most important, is providing them with opportunities for hands-on experience. Training programs must include as many different electrical engineering aspects as possible. For example, a young engineer interested in construction should ideally have seen design as well as facility management. This will allow them to have a holistic point of view in what is required. Such experience is seldom found and will most definitely be beneficial to any project.

I think that is a great opportunity to grow is leave comfort zone. It’s important that professionals have with a global vision and leave afraid for the future and work in improve their hard and soft skills

With in the field of engineering, challenges are what shape a good engineer and leader as they spark critical thinking and improves the mental status and the overall performance and productivity of the Engineer.

The necessary steps are to encourage continuous learning, instill a growth mindset, promote good communication skills, lead by example by setting realistic goal and meeting them, being open to questioning and provide good mentorship to the younger generation.

To groom the next generation of electrical engineering leaders, one would implement a comprehensive approach encompassing mentorship programs, hands-on experience opportunities, interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership development workshops, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies and industry trends. Sorry, but Cooperation is the basic, the 'Basic Project MANAGEMENT' for someone that leads a team (direct or indirect). If you as a teamlead, do not cooperate, the company has failed already on the HR process to hire you for this role. Cooperation is the most important part of a Manager/Leader/teamlead, etc. Working with all stakeholders, clarify the target with them first, to make everyone aware of what to reach. And then by the time supporting to remove roadblocks, give support or even only small motivations. All that does not work without cooperation, communication and understanding of all involved parties. Cooperation is the core of a succesful Manager/Leader. And yes, Managers should be Leaders, if not I do not need them!

An example of what I did to foster collaboration was to ensure a monthly joint workshop where a mentee presents a topic for discussion. I allow my mentees to critique and round off with what should be the ideal perspective on the subject. They ( mentees) are allowed to pick accountability partners within the team . This is geared towards promoting collaborative environment as well as healthy competition . They also feel more motivated and challenged in the process . In so doing, skills are honed and respect for diverse views on a single subject is imbibed ; plurality of options is respected as well . Logically , it inculcates inclusive attitude .

The idea that you can do it alone is not best suited for today's environment. In Data Science this would be called an "Unicorn". Companies strive for such people since it cuts on time to train and adjust to the organizational needs. However, if that employee leaves, then there is an even bigger hole to fill since not too many people can continue the expanded work. Collaboration on the other hand ensures that the knowledge is shared and each team member grows, and this is a win-win situation.

I am more than capable of working alone, but I've always preferred working as a team. I've always valued my opinions as much as my teammates and I stress that to everyone that works for me. I want someone's lessons learned to be a learning for everyone within the group. The most innovative ideas I've seen are when people are working together as a team.

How to foster collaboration and teach them to appreciate and respect. Al have different opinions, so short hear each other's options in better way to get ot done.

Provide a problem, that in your head, you have the solution to and ask them to challenge/improve on your idea. Provide the space to allow them to experiment even if you feel their idea is wrong, so they can learn from mistakes.

We can encourage innovation in next generation by providing real time problems and let them think out side of the box. We can share our experiences and guide them according to their understanding. Also innovation can be developed by learning new skills and technologies.

Part of management is acquired through experience and there is no special formula for it. Another part is obtained by studying management courses and courses. Part of it is related to the personality of each person as a part of that person's genes. It depends on how much of each is available to you. Try to consider all of them and improve them if you can, and lastly, like everything else, have a good relationship with your colleagues.

I agree but preference is to use the power of personal examples to motivate my mentees. We share real life stories and I introduce success stories they can relate with , instead of distant examples in far flung locations .Besides , instill in them a sense of humility, integrity and hard-work in their daily lives. We must consistently encourage and drive home the need for self development as a personal responsibility.It is incumbent on each person to acquire the requisite skills for today and the evolving jobs tomorrow . Drive the mantra “get the certificate or skill you think you may not need than to need a certificate or skill and you do not have it . Always demonstrate that character and humility will open countless opportunities.

In general leadership has changed, it's more about people then ever before. Lead by example, provide a healthy work life balance, show guinuan interest in people's life, create a safe space so that people are willing to speak up. Listen, be honest, show integrity, empathy, humility and be grateful. Speak about their goals and dreams and understand what you can do to guide them. Leadership is being present, being there with and for your people and serving them in the best way possible. Ensure to celebrate the wins and help when they need it. Leadership is not about you as a leader it's about the people you serve.

I’ve come to realize with time of active practice that one would never stop learning on the job. The earlier the young engineers come to terms with this assertion, the better it would help in their careers. An example in this instance is the diversity factor that electrical engineers often use to calculate loading of equipment/ distribution boards in domestic and commercial wiring works. Gone are the days one would assume safely 80-85% and would be just fine. But with the onslaught of many appliances and items needing power in buildings, such a figure could easily prove problematic. Thankfully there are tools/ software to test scenarios and young engineers are encouraged to utilize these to enhance their capabilities.

I do believe giving them opportunities to let them show their capabilities is important. There is no point is testing them but not giving them leadership positions, this feels like they are being used rather than it is a way for them to learn and step up to next level. You may develop leaders but they will become leaders for a different organization and not yours. Yes, groom and mentor is great, but I do believe taking a risk and get them into leadership positions will expedite the process.

When an engineer expresses interest in a leadership role, help them identify opportunities for growth. Consider giving them opportunities to take ownership of an initiative like managing part of a project, budget, or even a small team. My favorite leadership analogy is being a passenger on a road trip. - DON'T sleep in the passenger seat and make the driver do everything. - DON'T be a micromanaging backseat driver either. - DO help the driver focus on the task at hand (driving). Help by taking care of distractions like setting the GPS, adjusting the climate controls, checking the fluids, etc. And keep an eye out for blind spots that they aren't aware of.
