What do you do if your environmental engineering venture needs investor support?

I know exactly the environmental engineering project I must do, where and how to do it, the costs of each stage, and the investment needs. It is ready, urgent, lifesaving, has a high impact and returns. Articulating this to investors raises a contradiction faced by presenters of complex deep science and engineering projects. The need is to hook investors in 2, 7, or 10 minutes. To say "We are the Tesla of bioscience, limnology, & geo-engineered processes mitigating gigatons of GHG emissions from specific locations in the hydrosphere while saving millions of lives, as we produce trillions of dollars of bioenergy!" is a headscratcher in a long sentence. But can I align and enthuse investors with a complex idea that's never in their thesis?

Beyond the point we identify needs, crafting a pitch targeting the majority of investors can be a fruitless mission. If your climate project pursuit precludes most because of geography, size, category, risk perception, or FOAK, first focus on your investor thesis. Define that minority of investors equipped and most inclined to seek you out. This may cut out speed-dating events, most VCs, trend followers, and local-only players. Can you then define categories of who may be interested? Your perfect pitch's message must then focus on them. Now you can target your thesis at those looking for you and craft a perfect pitch for them. Its content and messaging are focused, replete with details such as climate, humanitarian, and benefits needed.

Can one differentiate between narrowly focused and broader environmental and climate projects? Any networking potential varies accordingly, from upstream or downstream positions to partnering within a wider ecosystem. Our leadership is in a key enabling technology for capturing bio-methane and CO2 from deep water at gigaton-scale. Many established technologies are available to monetize these low-cost products to pay for the extraction and make competitive products. This ecosystem development is needed and hugely beneficial in the geographies where we're engaged as it lowers costs and can make economies net negative. As a startup not geared toward developing on all fronts, finding and networking with partners is a key requirement.

As we deal with several very different governments in the shared geography for one project, we know how diverse and distinct the countries' political, economic, language, cultural, and educational statuses are. While shared resources require close cooperation, their very distinct past approaches, histories, tax regimes, and commercial preferences are in play. We have been present in the countries for decades, learning how these distinctive approaches have developed, which institutions are in place to enable investment, and where issues exist that can aid or hinder developments.
