This not only benefits individuals but also strengthens teams and organizations as a whole.

I think all of these are great things to take stock of. But I also think that is the race that is retail you should be able to pivot quickly here. Look at what you do well as a leader that can be part of your evergreen style of leadership then look at what feels dated and as such- ineffective. Ask for feedback. Be open. Make small changes everyday to meet your team where they are. You will evolve and build yourself and your partners up in the process.

In my humble opinion, no leadership style is out of date and here's the reason why? Answer leader is your job to alway search for new ways to grow that means paying attention to your employees, your customers and yes, overhearing for lack of a better words " Scuttle bug gossip". You need to constantly keep on research that help you improve being a better manager are a better employee. Learn to implement small things at first and then, as you become more comfortable gradually use new things that make you uncomfortable because it goes against what you were taught. This is how you grow as a supervisor or manager, It's easy to get stuck in what we know. But our jobs is to change with The times and excel.

In my experience this should be the first step, assessing yourself to see what can change. Then seek out insight for what can change or what things could be improved. In order to be effective we all must change . Life and businesses always are changing we must also change with them in order to stay effective and efficient.

When I first got into retail I knew very little but it basically breaks down to making customers happy. In order to do this you must be a voracious reader and have a place to deploy and try out what learned. You must then see what is working and what is not. This is where you must be in touch with those who are on the front lines of your team, collaboration is key. At times the general himself may throw himself on the front lines of customer service to see what has changed and what remains true. This is essential so that there is no disconnect between the customer service general and his/ lieutenants. When both are in the same page a well crafted plan will work in whichever customer service theater that is present.

Retail is always about what the world wants. I.e. your primary customer. it is important to stay abreast to what is working, and what the majority will want/need, and what you are capable of offering. Stagnation breeds chaos. However, your values as a service/product provider must not be compromised, in order to remain unique in the market.

The most successful retail managers are able to find balance between tasks and relationships. Employees ultimately are able to work in a more effective way when they feel considered. But also when their manager has clearly communicated and maintained their performance expectations.

Situational leadership is a key to success. One must know their audience, their capabilities, and what they may have at stake. Knowing the team members that you work with and knowing what motivates them, is beneficial in being able to select the right mechanism to motivate. Example, many are motivated by recognition, some are motivated by always being at the top of the list, while others may have something completely different. It’s up to the leader to determine that, by making it a point to learn who they are working with.

A powerful tool that must go hand in hand with empowering your customer service troops is providing a safe environment for failing and testing ideas. Many make a mistake when they create this sterile environment where subconsciously perfection is what is demanded. Then you use them as well as business skills to implement the changes that they can make and teach these leadership skills by assessment and teaching to all your staff and management so that you can identify where these new skills need to be used and the staff that can be used to implement them.
