After a hectic month of client meetings and tight deadlines as a Sales Engineer in Bangladesh, I sought solace in the serene hills of Bandarban. Trekking through lush green trails, I discovered hidden waterfalls and quaint tribal villages. Engaging with locals over cups of indigenous tea, I learned about their culture and traditions. The breathtaking vistas and crisp mountain air offered a much-needed respite from the chaos of city life. As I watched the sunset over the rolling hills, I felt a sense of tranquility wash over me, recharging my spirit. Returning to work, I brought back not just memories but also a renewed vigor to tackle challenges with fresh perspective.

As a Sales Engineer needing to recharge, embracing activities outside of work can be incredibly revitalizing. Consider hobbies that contrast with your daily routine—whether that’s outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, or creative pursuits like painting or music. Such activities can clear your mind and improve your mood. Additionally, spending quality time with family and friends can provide emotional support and a change of perspective. Don't overlook the benefits of a regular fitness routine and adequate rest—both are essential for mental and physical well-being. With the highly technical and stressful nature of most SE positions, I think it's crucial to get out into nature or play an instrument to engage the other side of your brain and give yourself a break. Finding hobbies that get me away from a screen are the best ways for me to decompress as well as recharge. Creative outlets where you can create something from scratch are becoming increasingly popular as well, if you prefer arts & crafts to hiking and adventure. These can give you a great sense of accomplishment as you have something tangible to hold in your hands or look at (i.e. pottery or rug making classes).

Physical activity is great but at the same time you need to blend in movement and activity during your entire day especially as less and less on-site demos occur and everything is on a desk starting at a camera. Plenty of advice on getting up , streching and other mixed in activities but in my own experience the change that helped me the most was a standing desk and a walking pad within it. That simple change not only helped me get a decent amount of physical activity but also had a very positive impact on my attentiveness at the end hours of the day along with awareness in multitasking.

Here is an interesting idea - find a role that includes travel to differrent sites(not just to major cities) and you can blend work with pleasure. Although in reality this can get a little tiring as I have experienced but if you get to see some beautiful parts of Wyoming, Colorado, New Jersey, California and some 20 other states as part of your on site visits.. it can be a lot of fun.
