As an entry level operator, the key responsibilities include taking plant rounds to ensure normal running of equipments and parameters. Being vigilant and hungry in risk discovery, with taking appropriate action and reporting of the same. As the plant area owner, one is responsible for the safety of non-operational activities in the area. These include good house-keeping, safe working conditions with proper procedures.

Operator should look to reduce the variations in process such that loss can be minimized. This can be implemented by fine-tuning of Control valve operation in co-ordination to process parameters.

when working in a manufacturing plant as a quality inspector its your responsibilty to flag up any issues found on defective parts to minimise scrap and report it so problem can be rectified as most companies have a ppm in place zero tolerance also machines have tpms in place mostly every 4 weeks so they run perfect as to stop downtime because companies can get fined for stoppage time

Field operators are a very crucial element of plants , they should use a technique called LLF (look,listen,feel) to check the equipments

Look,Listen,Feel is the method I use and teach to every entry level person. Don’t be afraid to take a walk and just absorb the environment. The background noise is important. People would think I was doing magic because I could step out and listen for a minute then say this tank is empty without looking at a screen. A full tank sounds solid like a thud, empty sounds hollow and rings more. If a fan is shaking and noticeably louder or vibrating excessively it may be developing bearing issues. As a entry level person you can still contribute by noticing something that doesn’t look normal, sound normal or feel normal that could prevent or greatly reduce down time by catching something before it becomes a problem.

First step before the process Monitoring is to understand the underlying processes that go on in the plant. A plant operator needs to know what is happening or supposed to be happening in all the equipment of his plant. This starts of course with a mass balance and a comprehension of the Process Flow Diagramma of the plant. Then he needs to comprehend what physical and chemical processes are deployed in the plant. Examples are the heating and cooling, phase changes and the corresponding temperatures and pressures. In case of chemical conversions, the reaction products and byproducts and their properties at the physical conditions in the plant.

Key points to note on Process Monitoring as an Operator. What are the key parameters that affect the process? Do you know those parameters? What are the set points? What are the control limits? What action should you take if there is a deviation? The above questions are key when monitoring the process. Report all deviations on time. Know when to act or report, that is understanding Operating procedures. Remember, as an Operator you are the first line of defense on Process Monitoring.

Process monitoring, is the back bone of an operator. You keenly monitor Process and understand processes, your sense organs have to be trigger. Personal, process monitoring has helped me in being a better operator

Safety is key in any process. People, environment and assets must be protected all time. Understand and know all the safety checks, procedures and protocols to be followed when running the process. Report all neat-hits on time and make sure you close them or escalate to the relevant stakeholders. Use all PPE that are required in that process all the time and use it properly. Pre-Task Risk assessment, Permit to Work and Logout/tagout procedures must be understood and followed all the time. Remember you have one body and one life to protect all the time, same applies to your team members, protect them all the time.

Safety for me is the most important things in any industrial set up. Without safety in mind everything will be a messed. Following proper protocol and machine manuals will lead you to become efficient and effective operator. Every click of a button must have safety in mind, remember many of your colleagues safety depends on you.

Los conocimientos adquiridos por estudios y experiencia son fundamentales pero ésta debe ser periódica y actualizada porque podemos con el tiempo manejar nuevos productos,procesos,maquinarias,etc, repercuten en una nueva forma de trabajar, las mejoras de calidad y productividad deben ir acompañadas no sólo de una capacitación reglada sino también de una actitud esmerada y honesta del operador.

Never disregard safety, Rules, regulations and procedures are in place and implemented from past learnings. Look out for yourself and your workmates and never be afraid to stop a the job and ask for help

Being new is overwhelming, but it’s important to learn about everything you interact with. Learn the materials you work with and the characteristics. If you need to catch a sample, what PPE will you need? Is it hot, cold, sharp, hazardous? Remember safety policies and rules are to protect the company. Safety compliance is to protect you.

Communication is a very big challenge especially if you are working with a diverse environment. But having said that, we can learn the basic languages of your colleagues to better understand each other. Being fluent in language doesn't necessarily make you a good communicator. What is important is that you are able to relay your message with full understanding for the recipient.

Being a good team player is essential for a plant operator. You'll interact with various people like other operators, technicians, and managers. Effective communication is key, especially during shift changes where clear information handover is critical. It's not just about talking; it's about listening, too. You'll need to understand feedback, resolve disagreements, and even support ongoing improvements in the workplace. As someone new to the field, honing your communication and interpersonal skills is vital. You'll also need to adapt to a diverse workplace, respecting the backgrounds and viewpoints of your coworkers. Good teamwork not only makes your job easier but also contributes to overall plant performance and safety.

Communication plays a pivotal role across all industries. It should be concise and unambiguous, with receivers confirming their understanding of the sender's message. Clear communication has the potential to prevent numerous catastrophic situations.

Communication and teamwork will make the dream work . Don’t be frightened to ask for help if you need it . Maybe your idea will be better than the plan you have been given , possibly safer and more productive and profitable . It’s always worth discussing ideas . If you are working as part of a team always include everyone in your discussions and reward them for work well done . Without a good team that works well together it will be difficult to get good results .

Continuous training and education are essential to gain new skills to support the processes and team development. It is important for the collaborators' curiosity to identify knowledge gaps and close them by training.

Do you have a progressive training program? If not, why? You must have a way for your operators to improve their understanding of the systems. This leads to better and safer operations. Many times the less experienced will see improvements that are overlooked by the more senior operators. Most people are looking for better or more efficient ways to perform the task even without knowing the details.

The Plant Operations entry level responsibilities in Oil and Gas industry include; Adherence to Safety, Health and Enviroment requirements (Policies), Good communication with team, Training in assisgned units, basic trouble shooting of plant issues and also preparation of equipement for maintenance work.

When I first joined LinkedIn I belonged to an industrial maintenance professionals group. The members of this group were mainly boots on the production floor types of people. (The people with grease under their fingernails) I learned a lot from this group and discovered that even though we were in completely different types of industries, we had a lot in common. LinkedIn decided at some point to rename our group to industrial maintenance managers, and our notifications became a feed for companies hawking maintenance programs. BORING! I guess that even though LinkedIn recognizes our millwright title as a job, we apparently aren't "white collar" enough.
