For me, I would do a "destination check"... get with each of the team members in a safe, one-off discussion and find out what they think the goals of the team are. Often, when you gather all the perceptions, you find people are working towards different incremental and big destination goals. When that misalignment exists, the friction is usually revealed. It is a simple leadership task. You just need your leaders to invest that time into the people and then you'll find a powerful return.

Resolving conflicts becomes crucial for maintaining productivity and morale. First and foremost is to try to understand the RCA for conflicts and understand both the parties disagreement so based on that have a proper and clear communication with both the parties about the what kind of models or algos we are going to use to resolve the case studies and make a regular meeting and take a feedback.

We usually managed to navigate it by: 1. Switching our regular meetings to informal coffee chats. Discussing challenges in a relaxed environment broke down walls and fostered open communication. 2. Each person had the floor to share their thoughts without interruptions. It wasn’t about immediate solutions, but about truly hearing each other out. This practice brought a deeper understanding of the various viewpoints in the room. 3. We approached the problem as a collective brainstorm. Also, providing an alternative solution goes a long way in showcasing how we are looking at the bigger picture, and shall provide the optimal solutions at our disposal.

I agree with all of this, and I believe negotiation will help the team avoid racing to the bottom with a lowest common denominator consensus position. Communication is essential on an AI team because the disconnects will accelerate at high speed.

I have found the SCARF model particularly helpful as it can really help you and your team pinpoint where people are feeling uncertain, psychologically unsafe, etc. Another is the fishbowl technique for listening. Like all teams , AI team will have internal dynamics and will need storming and norming before they start performing. One Good practice I've followed in my team is working as buddy pairs, which then helps have a balanced opinion, as the pair is formed from different teams with different KPIs ( development & testing) Then there's an Open Mike every week where issues are discussed in general without naming the owner and solutions sought openly from the forum which is awarded. Finally, success and failures are both owned as a project with each team responsible to handover baton while ensuring the other is comfortable while taking over with an overlap of responsibilities. Such a culture where efforts matter the most & not outcomes alone.

With emerging technology, we could have issues of: Deferring methodologies due to the absence of standardization, Ethical implications, and Interoperability between systems. One thing I have found to be helpful is establishing clear goals. It is important that everyone on the team understands the project goals, their roles and what is expected of the project. There is a need for alignment in these areas regardless of individual preferences. An optioneering process for methodology selection can be implemented; setting a clear ethical standard for the team to abide by and this could be project specific or general based on company culture; and defining interoperable architectures from the beginning of the project.

Just do it! For e.g - Applying AI Platforms to augment human capital. Implement an Accent Neutralization platform for deployment of thousands of agents in Philippines and/or India so the end consumer in the US when speaking with an agent hears a accent neutral, no background noise with high energy sounding irrespective of the day or night time. One of the agents in a town hall meeting ( that has been using AI driven Accent Neutralization) said “ I have been abuse free for over 70+ days using this platform”. We don’t give it much thought but a call center agent taking few hundreds of calls a day receives frustrated calls from end consumers and end up abusing and taking out their frustration on an agent with an accent.
