In my experience, linking data governance to use cases is key. When people understand that the business objectives, will not be reached without proper data governance then usually people start to listen. Also include potential security and compliance issues will also speed things up, since no one want the be responsible for a data breach. Moreover getting buy in for senior stakeholders is key.

Explain that data governance encompasses the framework for ensuring data's availability, usability, integrity, and security within enterprise systems. It's not merely about enforcing rules—it's about establishing internal standards and policies that enhance data quality and reliability. Emphasize that effective data governance empowers the company to make more informed decisions, safeguard sensitive information, and adhere to regulatory requirements.

Highlighting risk mitigation as a key reason for implementing robust data governance is crucial for illustrating its value. Emphasize that without a well-defined data governance strategy, an organization becomes susceptible to numerous risks, including data breaches, legal complications, and financial losses. In my Data Governance training sessions, I use the example of the chaos that would ensue if you went to your usual supermarket and found no logical organization of products on the shelves. We often end up recreating KPIs without knowing they already exist, questioning the reliability of the data, and struggling to get the help needed to understand what lies behind the data. We can always showcase data governance - "what it in for me" or "Aha" moment whenever it is possible with colleagues. I believe this is most efficient and penetrating method.
