I actually had this a couple of months ago. What I did was point out the advantages, however strange this might seem. But if someone exits the project, that also opens new doors. I pointed towards these new doors. Gave teammembers new responsibilities, new tasks, without overwhelming them. They loved it, work could continue. I just redivided the tasks and they loved it.

Acredito que a primeira coisa a ser feita é reunir a equipe e por na mesa os desafios que serão encarados a seguir. O segundo passo é eleger um substituto direto mas caso essa pessoa não exista, dividir as funções do antigo funcionário dentre os mais experientes da equipe. Acompanhar de perto o andamento dos trabalhos e dar feedback aos envolvidos é fundamental para a continuidade da melhoria e manutenção da motivação da equipe. Acredito que dessa forma, a falta do membro mais experiente da equipe pode ser inicialmente minimizada até que um substituto seja eleito ou alguém seja contratado para a função.

Well it has happened to all of us in the past, hasnt it? The key to handle such situations is to prepare early. In today's world where employees switch jobs every now and then, depending upon a specific person can prove hazardous. Hence we must prepare processes, documentations and backup for every activity. It is equally important for an organization to nurture their good resources, reward them well, understand their value and protect them from being hunted by rivals. If it still happens, fall back on the monitoring and tracking mechanisms. Provide incentives around the goal of the project. Promote people within the team with more responsibilities and sense of ownership. Above everything, instill positive mindset and learn from failures.
