Are they hunting for or sharing low cost tools and consumables that could be made more readily available? Are there environmental factors influencing their performance? Are they experiencing frequent interruption? Is a high level of background noise preventing efficient communication? Are they wasting effort on required non-value added steps? Some obstacles will be obvious from observation, but you should also ask them: What would make your job easier? Is there something you are doing that you think you should not be?
