In the event of delays, it is advisable to adjust the project plan and implement agile methodologies such as Scrum. Furthermore, it is beneficial to set milestones and intermediate deadlines, which enhance team efficiency and the probability of completing the project on time.

When faced with material delays, revising your project plan strategically is key to staying on track. Identify tasks that can be rescheduled or accelerated to make the most of available time. Look for preparatory or non-critical tasks that can be prioritized. This approach ensures your team remains productive and ready to proceed swiftly when delayed materials arrive. From my experience, keeping the revised plan flexible is crucial, as unforeseen changes may require further adjustments. Dedicated resources to performing material take-offs by work pack, identifying, assigning, labelling and segregating materials on the ground in a "bag and tag" effort to identify detailed inventories and shortages to compare with ordered quantities and committed deliveries. It is a significant effort; however, staying proactive and down to "touch" the last nut and bolt will pay dividends in your detailed planning, mitigation, and alternative analysis to manage this risk and control budget & schedule impacts.
