Your team is divided over design decisions. How do you navigate through the conflicts to reach a consensus?

Acknowledging and understanding each team member's inputs as the team leader is necessary to reach a valid consensus, and this requires a well defined set of goals for the design project against which each memeber's input or suggestions have to be validated. Additionally it is also important to keep in mind the various aspects of the design criteria and standards for the particular project to ensure robust results. Although debate can be a helpful tool in allowing all team members to voice their inputs, it has the risk of leading to conflict which prolongs the time needed for decision making, which will compell the leader to make hurried and often flawed decisions to beat the deadline.

Action: Actively listen to each team member’s perspective to understand their reasoning and the underlying issues behind their preferences. Example: When conflicts arose regarding the design mechanism, we made sure to listen carefully to both the design-oriented members and those focused on practical fabrication, ensuring we fully understood their points of view.

La plupart des objectifs personnels défini par des managers de différentes directions et bien diffèrent de sens, c'est aussi simple que c'est écrit. Pour qu'un projet regroupant plusieurs métiers aboutissent, il faut faire en sorte que les directions prennent le même sens et donc il est essentiel de mettre de coté ses objectifs personnels et de se concentrer sur les objectif commun à atteindre.

Etre à l'écoute ne suffit pas pour obtenir les informations nécessaires à la réalisation d'un projet et embrasser le dialogue par une communication non-violente permet de mettre en confiance les personnes qui ont besoin de s'exprimer et douteraient de le faire.

Example: By assigning specific responsibilities based on each member’s strengths—like design, fabrication, or presentation—I ensured that everyone felt valued and focused on their tasks, reducing conflicts.
