To ensure your team's values align with the organizational mission, start by openly discussing the core values with your team. Facilitate conversations where everyone can share what these values mean to them and how they relate to their daily work. Regularly connect team activities and decisions back to these values, highlighting their importance in achieving the organizational mission. Encourage team members to embody these values in their interactions and decision-making. Additionally, recognise and celebrate instances where they demonstrate alignment, reinforcing the positive behaviour. By fostering a culture that prioritises shared values, you create a cohesive team with purpose and passion.

I usually recommend the use of OKR's that align the team goals with those of the organisation. As a leader, I'd focus on defining the teams goals in alignment with their values, which would be key results. Additionally, I'd focus on creating alignment between those key results with the strategic goals of the organisation. What this does is not only provide clarity to the team members on how they can contribute to the organisation, but also collaborate better with people from other teams/departments based on their understanding of the bigger picture.
-
Why does the team exist, what is their purpose, how do they bring value to the company and customers. I don't mean the KPIs and their targets but the problems that they solve and how they help others. Then you can compare what are the goals and values of the company with the values and goals of the team, find the similarities, differences and readjust so there is alignment. If it is clear for the team their purpose it is easier to work out everything else. And of course OKRs can help.

To make sure your team’s values align with the organization’s mission, start by clearly sharing the mission so everyone knows what it is and why it matters. Lead by example—show how to live those values in your daily actions. Create an open environment where team members can chat about the values and their connection to the mission, making everyone feel included. Align team goals with the mission to keep everyone focused. Recognize and celebrate those who embody the values in their work, reinforcing their importance. Offer training and resources to help the team better understand and embrace the values. Finally, regularly ask for feedback on how aligned everyone feels, and adjust as needed.
