In telecommunications, maintenance windows and night work is normal. In my line of work, supporting ISPs, we typically perform migrations at night during the least active hours. While this does mean working from midnight to 4-5 AM sometimes, it's well worth it to ensure the least amount of impact to the end users.

It's important to perform as much prep as possible. When I was first starting out on migrations we were doing all the cable moves during the maintenance windows. That extended the amount of downtime to a whole week (multiple MWs). We learned from those lessons and eventually were able to implement workflows where cable moves were done without causing impact to the network, and this meant there was an extreme reduction in network downtime. We were able to get cable moves done and then have a single MW where we did all the updates.
