You're juggling multiple theatrical productions. How can you ensure quality without missing deadlines?

Strategy is key! Anyone in theatre knows that it is a military operation to juggle a production, & that it requires military precision. Look at each production separately and prioritise the stage each one is currently at. Delegate each component to the respective department, but utilise the hidden talents and strengths of other crew members who may have a desire to step up & feel empowered to assist in other roles; once they have prioritised there own. Assistance is crucial when time constraints are affecting other teams, so trust each team member to communicate & work symbiotically to ensure each production receives consistent collaboration.

The key to any successful production lies in the content, script, or idea, followed by careful budgeting and projections. Once these foundations are established, the focus shifts to developing other critical elements: directing, acting, production design, technology, venue selection, bookings, design, branding and marketing, sponsorship, and production planning. The designated executive producer then ensures that the project stays on track by overseeing timelines and delegating tasks to each department. At this point, the real work begins as the team races toward opening night.

The EP (executive producer), scriptwriter, production manager, and director are key players in any production. They form the core of the creative process, where the initial vision is developed and the elements of the production are carefully assembled. While the producer is often seen as the financier, they also play the crucial role of conductor, guiding the entire team toward the final goal. Although this may sound challenging, fear is absent when passion drives one's actions.

Systems and processes are essential for a well-organized operation, and Excel sheets and checklists play a crucial role in maintaining efficiency. It is vital to document everything in writing to avoid misunderstandings that may arise from relying solely on spoken communication.

The process often evolves as the project progresses, requiring adaptability and flexibility. When creating original content, workshops and extensive research and development are essential. Through this process, intellectual properties (IPs) are developed. It's crucial for all team members to be aligned, and in-person meetings with recreational activities can help foster a collaborative environment and reduce individual egos, ultimately leading to a shared goal.

The magic begins with the script where initial pillars are woven to dramatize the writing to the spoken word. Characterization is a journey once we know who our cast is. Rehearsals are when a full mock-up of all departments is in place. Rehearsals are three-four pronged: workshop with artists to make them understand their roles and gauge their ability to enhance them, rehearsal on the floor for base blocking (lines they gather as they go), tech rehearsals with departments on stage, including lights, sound, SFX, video, external and internal hire, dress rehearsals with costumes and tech, and grand rehearsal with all departments.

We normally double-cast for larger musicals, but for star-based shows, we can recast if time permits. We believe there is a market for every theater production. It's about research and analysis with the guidance of a few professionals, but even then, it's never 100% accurate. Therefore, the producer's experience is crucial in driving the project forward.
