Set up your speaker or moderator for success by equipping them with what they need (this will vary, get to know your speaker and their needs).

I had a briefing where a guy repeated over and over that we had to use Projection Mapping (yes, it was new and, yes, it's an old history). My answer was: if the content fits Projection Mapping, we will make it happen, but if it doesn't fit, we won't use it. Virtual backgrounds, polls, and real-time quizzes can make the sessions more dynamic. Additionally, using augmented reality filters or gamification can add a fun element. Encouraging speakers to engage with attendees through social media during breaks can also foster connection.

Work with your speakers to create engagement in their content/presentations. Our average attention span is less than 10 seconds so having engaging elements is crucial to have attendees pay attention and remember the content. Speakers can include questions for attendees to respond to in the chat, polls, whiteboards, breakout rooms with prompts for discussion and many more.

Invite influencial speakers or presenters to join your event remotely via video conferencing platforms. They can deliver keynote speeches, presentations, or panel discussions, adding valuable insights and expertise to your event.

Speakers and facilitators are your real bread and butter for events so ensure you prep them properly prior to the event so they feel confident and ready to rock the event for you. A training session to include how to use the platform and any resources you can provide to help them such as a script including conversation prompts with links and access to all relevant tools and areas will help eliminate any issues on the day and ensure everything goes well. Get them involved in the planning, and ask them for feedback on what has worked at previous events they have spoken at or facilitated to build those relationships for success.

Engaging speakers and facilitators play a pivotal role in delivering an impactful virtual event experience. Prioritize speaker training sessions to familiarize them with the virtual platform's functionalities and best practices for online engagement. Encourage speakers to utilize interactive tools like polls, quizzes, and breakout sessions to foster attendee interaction and participation. Additionally, provide resources such as presentation templates and technical support to facilitate seamless content delivery. Cultivating a collaborative environment between speakers and attendees enhances event engagement and fosters a sense of community.

Choose an event platform that has all the engagement and interactivity bells and whistles: in-session polls, emoji reactions, chat rooms, and gamification. But don't just enable it. Encourage participation and engagement in your event's microcopy and have your hosts and speakers incorporate it in their presentations. But participation is not limited to the platform on the day of the event. Engagement can precede and follow your event on social and in email. Organize polls, incentivize social posts by attendees with prizes and leaderboards, and send them a post-event survey for feedback and rating. Tip: Incorporate an activity or gamification scheme that contributes to a social or environmental cause in the name of the attendees.

Impact and engagement can be measured reliably from participant feedback, and is an invaluable tool for moving towards making events that are successful in both qualitative and quantitative outputs.

In many instances I have noticed through my experiences that while I may have technical knowledge to offer from my expertise and previous success, nothing is more valuable than intimate feedback from the patrons that you are serving. Not only is there a level of respect that comes with inclusion, there is value in connection.

Allow remote attendees to participate in Q&A sessions with speakers or panelists by submitting questions through a virtual Q&A platform or chat function. This encourages engagement and interaction between both in-person and virtual participants.
