You’re trying to explain a complex economic concept. How can you make sure your audience understands?

Our audience and their field of study is very important, for example in my experience I have had many meetings where I have to explain different projects or planning aspects to engineers, so I present my presentation according to their understanding of the projects. I give and explain my opinion. Using some figures and mathematical index, but when you want to explain the economic issue to the audience who do not have mathematical knowledge, you should explain with a simple index that they are familiar with.

Simplifier un concept a pour but de faciliter sa compréhension. Et pour cela il faut savoir expliquer le concept très simplement en ne mettant pas à la place de l'expert du sujet. Imaginez-vous simplement en train d'enseigner de nouvelles notions à des enfants de l'école primaire. Vous trouverez ainsi un moyen plus simple de facilité la compréhension.

When simplifying a complex economic concept, it's important to maintain its core essence while making it accessible to everyone, regardless of their background. Given that the economy impacts us all, relating the concept to relatable scenarios is key. For instance, I might draw parallels between the principles of supply and demand in economics to the dynamics of a student-run bake sale. Understanding the balance between what's available and what's desired mirrors economic principles on a larger scale. By using less obvious examples, individuals can grasp the fundamental concepts of economics through familiar situations, enabling them to better comprehend their role within the broader economic framework.

When explaining complex concepts, use analogies and similies and talk as if you are telling a story to the audience. If you can't explain a complex economic concept to a layman, you probably do not understand it well yourself. So, bring in everyday life to explain a complicated concept, or relate that concept to something your specific audience can understand.

Une chose que j'ai constaté est que le public adhère plus fortement à un concept lorsque l'on parvient à lui faire vivre ce concept à l'intérieur de lui même. Vos interlocuteurs doivent se voir ou s'imaginer à l'instant présent dans ce que vous êtes entrain d'expliquer. Et pour cela, il faudra adapter les exemples au type de public qu'on a en face de soi (public initié ou non au sujet aborder). Et comme je le dis toujours : "pour faire adhérer son public à un concept, il faut expliquer le concept comme si vous étiez le public".

Visualiser son concept va au delà d'un simple support visuel. Il s'agit en réalité de faire vivre le concept à l'intérieur de soi, y adhérer totalement soi-même de manière à ce que cela se ressente.

To help the audience understand the concept, we can use tables, graphs, maps, photos, videos, and sometimes polls to engage with the audience. We should make the graphs simple and clear and not crowd too much information into one. Focus on the most pertinent information and what is the most important point for the audience to know.

Use polls to gather opinions, interactive quizzes to assess knowledge, and conversations to make sure everyone is comprehending. By politely responding to queries, concerns, and criticism, offering examples, and encouraging people to express their viewpoints, you may create a positive learning atmosphere.
