1 Choose the right gloves

5 Seek medical attention

If you do get injured by a sharp tool, you need to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Even a minor cut or scratch can become infected or cause complications. Wash the wound with soap and water, and apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Cover the wound with a sterile bandage or dressing, and change it regularly. See a doctor or a nurse if the wound is deep, large, or dirty, or if you have signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, pain, or fever. Follow the advice and treatment of the medical professional, and report the injury to your employer.
