Advanced education does not always guarantee a higher salary. You have to prove your worth and put in the time. Real Estate is a results oriented profession, while education is required, beneficial, advisable, education and credentials are not the same as quantifiable results. Therefore, before seeking a salary increase establish and quantify your "Added Value", that is, what would be missing in your organization, if you were not there? The more tangible these attributes, the more likely you will be to succeed in your salary pursuit. Those who equate their education, with their value, are completely missing the point as measured by a broker, owner, or senior executive in a company. From their perspective, your value, isn't reflected by your education, but by the tangible impact you, and your performance have on the business. Get that, you win!

Over the last 32 years in commercial real estate, the overwhelming majority of income Ive made has been fee based or profits on deals. In both cases, I created my income level. If you want to be paid what you are worth, earn it. You never have to worry about layoffs or corporate cuts. You just simply keep doing deals.

In business, often the only way to be compensated at the level that you believe is correct is to move to another firm. In that case, your current firm may make a counter-offer, but your status if you stay may very likely be diminished.
