Here's how you can ace a phone interview.

When we conduct remote interviews at legend group, we consider the following factors including thorough preparation of the candidate, clear and confident articulation, vivid showcase of their skills and experiences, asking thoughtful questions, and lastly following up and reiterating interest in the position.

Here’s some ways you can prepare confidently: Research the company extensively to understand its mission, values, and culture. Practice common interview questions and develop clear, concise answers that highlight your skills and experiences. Tailor your responses to align with the job description and demonstrate how you can add value to the team. Prepare thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer, showing your genuine interest in the role and organization. Finally, review your resume and be ready to discuss your achievements in detail. Thorough preparation boosts your confidence and ensures you present yourself as the best candidate for the job.

One thing I’ve found helpful is to research behavioral questions that may be relevant to the position in which you are applying. “If this happened, what would you do?” “Elaborate on a time where you experienced ____ how did you handle it?” Behavioral responses can be adapted to the position, as some of these questions are position specific.

Research the mission statement of the company and think carefully about how your attributes can enhance and promote the mission.

When asked what your most significant strengths are, don't answer with being a hard worker or team player. Those responses are different from what the interviewer wants to know. Character strengths are your positive qualities, as reflected in your thoughts, feelings, and actions, that promote the well-being of yourself and others. Curiosity, kindness, bravery, perseverance, hope, gratitude, honesty, humility, and fairness are all excellent examples of character strengths. Knowing your character strengths is your superpower.

Make note of any questions or clarification requests which may arise for you throughout the Interview. This will serve two purposes: you will gain a clear understanding of the position, the company and its expectations, and you will leave the interviewer with the understanding that you are eager to learn more about the company and are interestedin the position.

🚨TIP: HAVE A STICKY NOTE OR INDEX CARD IN FRONT OF YOU THAT LISTS 3 THINGS YOU MUST COMMUNICATE DURING THE PHONE INTERVIEW. Interviewees have job description, notepad, resume with them as well as stress of keeping up with the interviewer. Often a candidate ends the call and realizes there are points they did not communicate. Ahead of the interview decide on 3-5 killer points you want to communicate that directly correlate to nailing the interview. Use a sticky note or index card easy to see. At the end of the interview look at that card. If you did not communicate all points, simply say, "Before we say goodbye, there are a few thoughts I did not communicate during our discussion which I'd like to if I may?" Best of luck! 🍀

You are interviewing the organization just as much as they are interviewing you. Yes, you may want the position, but think about what you NEED in the long term. Does this organization meet those needs? Ask questions to better assess the organization’s ability to meet your needs, not just how you will meet theirs.
