A growth mindset is a survival skill in e-Comm! The pace of evolution and change is so fast that if you fail to learn and adapt quickly you'll definitely fall behind. I am very wary of self-proclaimed eComm experts precisely because of that: if you think you already 'know it all' or 'been there, done that' you are setting yourself for failure in the near future. I much prefer a eComm practitioner mindset: keep yourself grounded, humble and hungry for learning!

I see each new software update, market shift, or change in customer preference as a chance to expand my knowledge and skills. I prioritizing learning from two primary methods. 1] Read/Watch/Listen 2] Networking. You should absolutely make a habit to read about new happenings in E-Commerce through news, blogs, social post and the like. I prefer to listen to several podcasts as well to keep up to speed and watch relevant webinars to my roadmap. However, we shouldn't just rely on these materials. We need to build a network of our own with likeminded individuals at other companies running their Commerce teams. This is the true value - to tap into the shared learning and experience of others to help tackle your problems. Be sure to share your experience as well so others can benefit,

We talk about a "culture of courage" in my team summarised as 6 things: 1. Set scary high stretching standards for yourself. Standards way out the comfort zone of being able to “get there on your own”. Safe goals are set by safe leaders with safe visions. Don't be safe, be bold. 2. Allow for failure. To progress in mountain biking ride stuff you’re not quite capable of and fall/fail sometimes…same in eCom. 3. Reward innovation / creative problem-solving. 4. Distinguish the “Vital Few” from the “Trivial Many” (Greg McKeown) 5. Can I give this away? Free yourself up to do your best work & study new emerging areas 6. Play. Make time each week for explorative learning and play or get stale & unimaginative. Play with new tech tools.
