In my experience, the statement of the book 48 laws of power is spot on “Never outshine the master” power dynamics and politics when it comes to leadership positions is quite dangerous and not everyone can easily navigate it. Yet again, what I have seen with countless managers and employees can be summarized as follows: 1) employees should always give their managers an opportunity to guide them, your managers’s priorities ideally should be yours too 2) you should always come prepared with few solutions not just problems and more than one option so that they have the possibility of choice. 3) you would need from the start to set some informal boundaries where your authorities begin and end to avoid stepping over your managers’ authority
