Here's how you can effectively resolve conflicts in computer networking through communication.

A major element of issue resolution is issue identification; there must be some form of knowledge or awareness of the existence of an issue before any meaningful effort to remediate it begins. In my experience with resolving issues, whether they are people-related or network-related, issue identification is the first step to any permanent resolution. Without adequate identification of the issues and then the root cause of such issues, a permanent fix will only be a dream. Working on the wrong issue will not lead to fixing the right issue. For example, an IP conflict in your local area network would not be resolved by focusing on the reachability of the ISP. So also, denying or avoiding the issue would never get it resolved.

One of the major ways conflict is resolved among teams is through open dialogue. A change not communicated could lead to friction among teams. Resolving network issues can be enhanced by having war room sessions where all the parties involved are present and empowered to make the necessary changes. Conflict usually arises among team members or cross-functional teams when there are conflicting views and perspectives. An open dialogue always provides the cure for conflicts. For instance, in a war room session, trust and openness are key to a quick resolution of an IP permission issue or any other issue, for that matter.

The whole essence of conflict resolution is to implement changes. A well-resolved conflict often leads to a degree of action or, at the very least, a change in perspective for the parties involved. Some of the changes that could result from a conflict resolution process include policy changes, changes in architecture, changes in network permission or naming conventions, etc. The best response to change is to adapt and not resist it. The right attitude to change leads to an overall improvement of the system, working relationship, and process efficiency. Each part must be ready to make concrete changes in order for the conflict resolution process to be effective.

Monitoring the results of a resolution process helps in quickly determining any deviation from the resolution, such as policies, entitlements, IP permission, behavioural changes, etc. Standard procedures can be set that defines the new operating modes and standards.

After a while of implementing new changes, a review becomes necessary, and it is always great to review your conflict resolution process. Find out what works and what needs to be reworked.
