Here's how you can enhance communication between educators and students using emotional intelligence.

Through my various roles as an educator: teacher, adviser, coach, principal and superintendent, I have found empowering students to be extremely effective. In our roles as the authority figures, it is easy for educators to assert their position of authority above the student, causing students to feel threatened, attacked, or talked down to. By respecting students, empowering them, and helping them to find their voice we can establish more healthy environments in which to teach and learn. The old adage of "not smiling until Christmas" does not work. Sometimes we have to be prepared to get a bit of track and relate to our students about real-world problems and our feelings so that they can see our humanity and vulnerabilities too.

I have a story to share from my classroom experience. A child from my class would quite a few times act cheeky during lessons, sometimes right in the morning and sometimes close to noon. After understanding their pattern and speaking to their parents I realized that when they were hungry, they wouldn't know how to express and it manifested in different ways during lesson times. So in collaboration with the parent, we made sure they ate a heavy breakfast and even send a small snack- box to help him on those difficult days. While this was a case of non verbal cues, it is important as educators to keep our eyes and ears open and most of all have the time to reflect, to understand our class children better.

Identifying the emotions of students is keyy component to start the conversation. Observe their facial expressions, their behaviour, body language will help you to understand their emotional stability. You can respond to them accordingly, if they tense or demotivate you can encourage them. Emotional stability plays a crucial role in the development of students.

Active listening is a skill. It is important to anyone in a position of authority, and everyone who values clear communication. There are many strategies you can use to listen actively, including taking notes, asking open-ended questions to get peope to expound on their idea, asking clarifying questions, or summarizing the key points for the speaker to demonstrate you understand what they are saying. When educators actively listen to their students, it helps students feel heard, understood, and valued. El educador de hoy dia debe ser una persona que escuche a cada estudiante, dentro del aula como fuera de ella, demostrarles que estamos dispuesto a oír sin emitir un juicio, si no que podemos ayudar en todo momento en cualquier problema que se presente por muy pequeño que sea podemos estar atentos

Quando trabalhamos com adolescentes principalmente, temos ciência que aquela pessoa está passando por uma fase de descobertas sobre si e sobre o mundo, uma pessoa que necessita de atenção (por mais que este não o reconheça) e quando você se propõe a ouvir o que o aluno tem a dizer, ele se sente acolhido naquele ambiente reforçando o ato de validação sobre aquela pessoa. Porém mais que um desafio ouvir, é fazê-los falar, onde , é indispensável o passo 1: Inteligência Emocional.

escuta ativa é um componente crítico da inteligência emocional, que envolve concentrar-se totalmente no que a outra pessoa está dizendo, entender sua mensagem e responder com atenção. Na sala de aula, isso significa dar aos alunos toda a sua atenção durante as interações e incentivá-los a compartilhar seus pensamentos e sentimentos. Essa prática não só ajuda na avaliação precisa de suas necessidades emocionais, mas também demonstra que você valoriza sua contribuição, promovendo um relacionamento mais aberto e comunicativo.

The very heart of emotional intellegence lies in empathy, or the ability to demonstrate to others that you understand how they feel. Quite often there is nothing we can actually do to improve someone's predicament, but simply hearing them out and expressing sympathy helps them feel better. Why? Because humans are social animals and it is innate in us to want to be understood and cared about. This is where empathy comes in. Simply knowing that others know your situation and care builds bonds. It strengthens a sense of belonging and gratitude and/ or affection. It also builds loyalty, so the ability to listen and show empathy is important for any would-be leader. After all, leadership is granted by the followers.

Al estudiante siempre se le debe dar un voto de confianza aunque todos los que esten a su alrededor digan los contrario, un educador tiene el deber de no prestar atencion a todo lo que le dicen, siempre debe indagar y experimentar de forma personal que el estudiante puede ser diferente a como se lo han dibujado, darle la oportunidad de mostrar lo que el tiene en sus pensamientos.

No cerne da inteligência emocional está a empatia, ou a capacidade de demonstrar aos outros que você entende como eles se sentem. Muitas vezes, não podemos melhorar a situação de alguém diretamente, mas simplesmente ouvi-los e expressar simpatia ajuda a aliviar o seu desconforto. Por quê? Porque os seres humanos são animais sociais e têm um desejo inato de serem compreendidos e cuidados.

In my classes, I always remembered when I was a graduation student in physics and remembranced how hard it was to understand disciplines like "Physics 1, 2, 3.," "Quantum Physics," and others. When I remembered that, it was more emphatic to me to understand their difficulties with the discipline (Physics in high school) because something's similar. For example, in my beginnings at the university, I had a lot of difficulty understanding why the centrifugal force's a fictional force (today it's obvius to me) because, to me, on the epoch, any force is caused by an agent, and today I've come across the same doubt from my students! But because of my old doubts, I can understand why they have the same doubts about this content.

Some people worry about covering content and end up wasting valuable resources and time neglecting the importance of engagement with learners. Sometimes it is as easy as asking students, “now where was I?” You know where you are but hone in to assess if what you are doing is connecting with your students. Engaged learners will become more involved and confident lifelong learners.

Before every holiday break, I noticed certain students would "ramp" up their behavior problems. After talking with school counselors it seemed these students were struggling with the idea of being at home for any length of time because school was their safe space. Instead of "punishments" for behavior we started reflective journals where they would start with an emotional word they were feeling, and explain why they felt that way. Then they could place this word on an "anxiety scale" to see if this was something they could manage on their own or if it was something that needed assistance.

Desde mi punto de vista se debe tomar en cuenta el lenguaje que cada estudiante tiene y mostrar que somos capaz de aprender lo que ellos ofrecen de manera positiva y luego el educador debe ir entrando de forma muy discreta y entender el entorno donde estan y en que podemos ayudar o mejorar a cada estudiante

Desenvolver um vocabulário emocional rico é essencial para que educadores e alunos articulem sentimentos com precisão. Incentive os alunos a usar termos emocionais específicos em vez de descritores gerais como "bom" ou "ruim". Isso melhora a comunicação e ajuda os alunos a entender e regular melhor suas emoções, criando uma sala de aula emocionalmente inteligente e comunicativa.

This is very important to help us, as teachers, better understand what is happening. Where I work, there is a psychologist to help with this, and it works because the students have improved throughout the year in showing us how they feel.

Es fundamental concentrarnos en el vocabulario emocional, especialmente porque los estudiantes en diferentes etapas de desarrollo pueden no tener un pensamiento abstracto completamente desarrollado, lo que dificulta entender conceptos como comportamientos “buenos” o “malos”. Por ello, es importante educarnos sobre las emociones y cómo se manifiestan, y motivar a los estudiantes a identificar y expresar sus emociones, ya sea enojo, alegría, sorpresa o frustración. Esto les ayuda a desarrollar habilidades para su autorregulación y nos permite como educadores conocerles mejor y guiarlos en su desarrollo personal.

According to me active listening is very important although we teachers find ourselves speaking more than listening. The process of actively listening , empathizing and validating feelings has always helped me improve communication with my students. The power of positive language and showing genuine interest in students' lives helps build trust and enhances student engagement.

Fornecer feedback construtivo focado na inteligência emocional melhora a comunicação. Seja claro, específico e sensível aos sentimentos dos alunos. Em vez de apenas apontar erros, ofereça orientação sobre como melhorar e reconheça os esforços e progressos. Isso reduz a defensividade e promove uma mentalidade de crescimento, tornando o feedback uma parte valiosa da aprendizagem.

El estudiante siempre aprecia como lo puedes orientar con palabras claras y precisas en su lenguaje, sin maquillae las palabras, hablar de sus realidades y que de allí tembién se puede ser exitoso, solo se debe entender que todos podemos llegar a ser bueno en lo que realmente nos hace feliz y nos ayudará en el futuro a ser mejores personas y emprender en lo que se desea

In my experience, this is very important. When I show the error but explain why this is wrong while showing my confidence that they will be better the next time, they stop to see you as a monster, but yes, like a teacher who wants to teach them for their improvement.

Most often we fall into finding fault and not actively listening. This can discourage a parent, but most discourage the student because they will always feel they cannot improve. When providing feedback always start with the positive, how they are in the classroom, attitude, attendance, and attentiveness. Adding all those in and then coming to areas that need improvement while providing constructive feedback and getting parents involved for support.

Building trust between an educator and the student by establishing a safe and supportive relationship while encouraging a learner to share his or her thoughts and feelings more comfortably.

Shared dialogue, provoking questions in which students actively engage; giving each one the opportunity to participate. Give students questions not answers this leads to a Socratic Approach that fosters Critical Thinking in the classroom.
