I realize that educational leadership is above all a calling. Deep within us there is this need not only to transmit what we know but to transmit it with passion while creating a positive environment which allows each learner to bring out the best in them.

It's the mindset that it's all a 'learning journey'. Educational Leadership is not a vertical line, sometimes it's a tangent of discovery and exploration, that leads one to develop insights and expertise in the pedagogical and pastoral arena.

Do the deep dives, Go down the rabbit holes when asked a question. learn about what makes XYZ happen, then educate your students, understanding is half the battle.

One of the biggest misconceptions about starting a career in EdLeadership is that it requires a background in teaching or administration. While experience in education can be beneficial, leadership skills from various fields can translate well into this role. Another myth is that educational leaders are disconnected from students; in reality, effective leaders often engage directly with students to understand their needs. Additionally, there's a belief that financial acumen is secondary; however, budget management is crucial for creating sustainable programs. Some assume that conflict resolution isn't a significant part of the job, yet addressing conflicts among faculty and students is key to maintaining a positive learning environment.

I do not agree with those who think that there is a single path to being an educational leader. I have never been a teacher, I studied biology and chemistry in high school and geology at university. I had no plans to be a teacher after that. but it is the mine which brought to light this capacity that I had to supervise the students Geologists, Geo-miners etc...

Starting as a teacher and then scaling up to higher leadership position as well as starting in a leadership position - both has its own learning benefits.When you start off as a teacher and build on your organization skills as you gain experience,you become a part of the growth of the institution and you understand what might be the best option available for the personal and professional growth of your colleagues. Starting off in the leadership position will work if you are a servant leader.Asking others as to what would you have done if you were in my position and taking polls and following the RASIC framework will help in this role.

You're still you and your community will appreciate authenticity. If you were collaborative and a team player as a teacher, why would that change in a coaching or administrative position? It's one of your strengths and you should make it work for you in the new role.

Educational leadership is not linked to the number of years of experience but rather to the ability to clearly convey one's vision. it can be detected very early if we are exposed to a position that allows us to supervise students or even children because this influence can go beyond individuals and make a positive contribution to society
