In my experience working with early retirees, the majority choose to go back to work in some capacity. In almost every case I have seen, this was not out of financial necessity. Often early retirees are talked into returning to work by a former employer or colleague. Or they find they miss certain aspects of work and choose to go back. Early retirement is more about achieving the financial independence to have a work optional lifestyle. So stay open minded and flexible, you might find that returning to work totally on your own terms is the next best move after retiring.
