While being “tech savvy” matters, don’t forget the biggest matter to the client isn’t your ability to operate a cell phone or computers. It is always going to come down to the relationship you build with them. Computers and machines lack empathy, compassion, passion, understanding and the ability to calm nerves. It is about the relationship, the trust you build with the client. A big complaint I hear today for example is about how doctors seem to be herding people thru their office. They no longer seem to do more than a quick exam, and hardly have time listen to the patient. How does this build a positive relationship? It can’t. Don’t fall into the trap of being too techie and not enough human. It is a people business, always.
